Role & responsibilities

The Junior Chemist/Assistant Chemist is responsible for carrying out chemical analysis and quality testing of raw materials, intermediate products, clinker, cement, coal, and other process materials. The role supports the Quality Control department by ensuring compliance with quality standards and maintaining laboratory equipment while following safety and quality procedures.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine chemical analysis of limestone, laterite, iron ore, gypsum, clinker, cement, coal, and fly ash.
- Conduct physical tests on cement including fineness, setting time, consistency, soundness, and compressive strength.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments such as XRF, XRD, spectrometer, muffle furnace, and other testing equipment.
- Collect and prepare samples from mines, raw mill, kiln, cement mill, and packing plant.
- Record and maintain laboratory test reports accurately in the prescribed format.
- Monitor process quality parameters and report any deviations to the senior chemist.




- Assist in calibration and preventive maintenance of laboratory instruments.
- Ensure compliance with BIS, ASTM, and internal quality standards.
- Maintain proper housekeeping (5S) and laboratory safety practices.
- Coordinate with Production, Mines, and Process departments regarding quality-related issues.
- Follow SOPs, ISO standards, and Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and root cause analysis for quality deviations.

Key Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills
- Knowledge of cement manufacturing process.
- Knowledge of wet chemical analysis.
- Basic understanding of XRF and XRD operation.
- Familiarity with BIS/IS standards for cement testing.
- Sample preparation and laboratory testing.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment calibration.
- Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control procedures.
- Basic computer skills (MS Excel, Word).
