About the Role:

We are looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to join a product-based company in Chennai. The ideal candidate will bring robust backend engineering expertise, hands-on system ownership, and the ability to mentor and guide a team while contributing to architecture and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
- Own end-to-end design, development, and delivery of backend systems
- Lead and mentor a team of backend engineers
- Drive best practices in coding, code reviews, and CI/CD workflows
- Design and optimize systems for scale, performance, and reliability
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, DevOps, QA) to deliver high-quality releases
- Own production issues, debugging, and performance tuning

Required Skills:
- 6+ years of backend engineering experience, with team/delivery ownership experience
- Strong programming fundamentals (language agnostic — Java, Python, Node.js, Go, etc.)
- Strong SQL/NoSQL experience,



with proven ability to scale growing data volumes
- Hands-on experience with Redis (caching strategies, session management)
- Experience with observability tooling (OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Datadog)
- Proficiency with Docker — containerization & deployment workflows
- Experience with message brokers (Kafka/RabbitMQ)
- Strong Git/GitHub workflow experience — branching, PR reviews, CI pipelines
- Prior experience in a SaaS/product-based company
- Solid performance optimization and debugging mindset
- Proficiency with agentic/AI-assisted development tools

Good to Have:
- AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS)
- Experience building observability/platform products
- Kubernetes / container orchestration
- GraphQL API experience
- B2B SaaS background
- Customer onboarding / PSA domain experience
- System design experience at scale (500K+ RPM)
- Prior Tech Lead / Staff Engineer track record
- Open-source contributions
