- 15+ years of software engineering experience, with recent experience as a Staff, Principal or Distinguished Engineer (or equivalent).
- Deep expertise in large-scale SaaS platforms, distributed systems, cloud-native architectures (Azure and/or AWS), microservices, event-driven systems, resilience, scalability and security.
- Solid hands-on engineering capability. They should still be capable of solving complex technical problems and leading by example rather than purely through governance.
- Experience influencing engineering organisations without line management responsibility, mentoring senior technical leaders, and driving engineering standards across multiple teams.
- Extensive experience using AI throughout the software development lifecycle, including coding assistants, AI-enabled testing, observability and incident management. We're looking for someone who can also define AI strategy and governance for an engineering organisation, not just use AI tools personally.
- Strong commercial awareness,



with the ability to balance technical excellence against business outcomes and communicate effectively with engineering, product and executive stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills and executive presence, ideally with experience speaking at conferences, customer events or industry forums.
- Experience with technical due diligence and post-acquisition technology integration would be highly desirable.
