Role Purpose

The Head of Department (HOD) – English (IBDP / IGCSE) will provide academic and administrative leadership to the English Department. The role involves overseeing the planning, delivery, and assessment of English curricula across the IBDP and IGCSE programmes, mentoring teachers, and ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning. The HOD will also contribute to strategic academic planning, career development, and school-wide literacy initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Academic and Departmental Leadership




Lead and manage the English Department across IBDP, IGCSE, and lower secondary levels (if applicable).
Ensure curriculum continuity, alignment, and progression across grade levels.
Oversee the design and implementation of IBDP and IGCSE English Language and Literature courses.
Conduct lesson observations, provide feedback, and mentor English teachers to maintain academic quality.
Coordinate departmental goals, improvement plans, and resource management.
Promote inquiry-based learning and assessment for learning practices.
Teaching and Learning
Teach English Language and/or English Language & Literature at IBDP and/or IGCSE level.
Model effective instructional practices and high academic standards.
Encourage critical thinking, communication, and literary appreciation among students.
Guide teachers and students through IB Internal Assessments (IAs), Individual Oral (IO), Higher-Level Essay
