The Casualty Medical Officer (CMO) Emergency Room provides immediate medical care to patients presenting to the casualty/ER, performing rapid assessment, stabilization, and initial treatment, and coordinating further management or referral to appropriate departments. The role is handson clinical and often shiftbased, working closely with nurses, specialists, and other healthcare team members to ensure timely, secure emergency care.

Key Responsibilities





Provide immediate medical care to patients in the casualty/ER, including rapid assessment, diagnosis, and stabilization in acute or lifethreatening situations.
- Take detailed history and perform focused physical examination for all ER patients, prioritizing based on triage and clinical urgency.
- Initiate and manage emergency treatment plans (e.g., fluids, medications, oxygen therapy, pain control) and perform necessary emergency procedures such as IV/IM injections, NG tube insertion, Foley catheterization, arterial blood gases, paracentesis, intubation, and CPR.
- Decide on further management: admission, observation, discharge with instructions, or referral to appropriate specialties (medicine, surgery, orthopedics, ICU, etc.).
- Ensure accurate, timely documentation in ER records, forms, and electronic medical records, including clinical notes, orders, diagnosis, procedures, and discharge/admission summaries.
