Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Job Summary

The NICU Staff Nurse is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to critically ill and premature newborns admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The role involves continuous monitoring, administering medications, assisting in neonatal procedures, supporting families, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure the highest standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to neonates in the NICU.
- Monitor vital signs, oxygen saturation, ventilator settings, and overall clinical condition.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and nutrition as prescribed.
- Assist in neonatal procedures such as intubation, central line insertion, lumbar puncture, and resuscitation.
- Operate and monitor NICU equipment, including ventilators, CPAP, incubators, infusion pumps, phototherapy units, and monitors.
- Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation.




- Follow infection prevention and patient safety protocols.
- Recognize and respond promptly to neonatal emergencies.
- Educate and support parents regarding newborn care, breastfeeding, kangaroo mother care, and discharge planning.
- Coordinate with neonatologists, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and continuing education programs.
- Ensure proper handover during shift changes.

Qualifications
- B.Sc. Nursing or GNM from a recognized institution.
- Valid nursing registration with the appropriate Nursing Council.
- Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred.
- Advanced Life Support certifications are an added advantage.

Experience
- 0–2 years: Fresh graduates may apply (training provided).
- 2+ years of NICU experience preferred for experienced positions
