We are seeking an experienced
Associate Attorney
to support a New York-based law firm specializing in
US bankruptcy litigation
, particularly defending clients in adversary proceedings involving preference and fraudulent transfer claims.
This is
not a paralegal or legal research role
. The successful candidate will function as an integrated member of the firm's litigation team, independently managing assigned matters under the supervision of licensed U.S. attorneys.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage adversary proceedings under the supervision of
U.S. attorneys
from complaint through resolution.
- Draft:
- Answers
- Affirmative Defenses
- Motions to Dismiss
- Summary Judgment Motions
- Reply Briefs
- Discovery Requests and Responses
- Settlement Agreements
- Demand Letters
- Mediation Statements
- Internal Legal Memoranda
- Analyze trustee complaints and prepare litigation strategy memoranda.
- Conduct legal research relating to:
- 11 U.S.C. §547 (Preference Actions)
- 11 U.S.C. §548 (Fraudulent Transfers)
- Section 550 recovery actions
- Ordinary Course Defense
- Subsequent Recent Value Defense
- Contemporaneous Exchange Defense
- Uniform Voidable Transactions Act (UVTA/UFTA)
- Monitor and manage case dockets using PACER.
- Review court filings and maintain electronic case files.
- Prepare deposition outlines, exhibit lists and witness preparation materials.
- Draft client correspondence and litigation status reports.
- Coordinate with attorneys, local counsel and opposing counsel regarding procedural matters.
- Perform legal citation review and Bluebook compliance.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with client data security requirements.
Qualifications
Mandatory
- LLB or JD-equivalent qualification from a recognized common-law jurisdiction.
- Admission as an Attorney-at-Law is preferred.
- Minimum
3–5 years of post-qualification experience
.
- Excellent legal drafting and written English.
- Experience in commercial litigation or civil litigation.
