Job Description – Welding Enginee

Department: Quality Assurance

Reporting To: Head – Quality / Executive Director – Operations

Job Purpose

To ensure all weld repair activities on steel castings are carried out in compliance with customer specifications, international codes, and internal quality standards, while minimizing repair rates and ensuring first-time acceptance.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, qualify, and maintain WPS, PQR, and Welder Qualification Records (WPQ) as per ASME Section IX and customer requirements.
- Plan and supervise weld repairs on carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, super duplex, and nickel alloy castings.
- Review RT, UT, PT, MT, and VT reports and define appropriate weld repair procedures.
- Coordinate with foundry, heat treatment, machining, and quality teams to ensure timely completion of repair welding.
- Monitor preheating, interpass temperature, PWHT, and welding consumable storage and usage.
- Conduct root cause analysis for welding defects and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Train, qualify,



and monitor welders to improve productivity and weld quality.
- Maintain complete welding documentation for customer inspections and audits.
- Support customer, TPI, and third-party inspections related to welding activities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce weld repair rates and improve first-pass acceptance.

Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech. or Diploma in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Welding Engineering.
- CSWIP 3.1/3.2, IWE/IWT, AWS-CWI, or equivalent certification is preferred.

Experience
- 3–10 years in a steel casting foundry or heavy engineering industry.
- Experience in pump castings, duplex and super duplex stainless steels, and pressure-containing components is preferred.
