Job Description of a Staff Nurse

A Staff Nurse is responsible for providing safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care to patients while working as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess patients' physical and mental health conditions.
- Monitor and record patients' vital signs and symptoms.
- Administer medications, injections, and intravenous (IV) therapy as prescribed.
- Assist physicians during examinations, procedures, and surgeries.
- Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans.
- Provide wound care, dressings, and other nursing procedures.
- Educate patients and their families about disease prevention, treatment, medications, and self-care.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation.
- Ensure infection prevention and control measures are followed.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide basic and advanced life support when required.
- Coordinate with doctors, pharmacists, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care.




- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of medical equipment and supplies.
- Supervise and guide junior nursing staff, nursing students, and support staff when required.
- Participate in quality improvement programs and continuing professional development.

Qualifications
- Diploma, B.Sc., or equivalent qualification in Nursing.
- Valid nursing registration/licensure with the relevant nursing council.
- Valuable communication, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills.
- Ability to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Knowledge of infection control, patient safety, and emergency care procedures.
