Role & responsibilities
- Diagnosis: Performing physical examinations and interpreting diagnostic tests like X-rays, CT scans, and pulmonary function tests to identify respiratory diseases.
- Treatment: Developing and managing treatment plans, which can include medications, therapies, and surgical procedures.
- Patient Care: Monitoring patients' progress, adjusting treatments as needed, and educating patients and their families on preventative care and lifestyle changes for respiratory health.
- Consultation: Providing expert advice to other healthcare professionals and specialists on complex respiratory cases.
- Specialized Procedures: Performing procedures such as bronchoscopy to visualize the airways, thoracentesis to remove fluid from the chest, and sleep studies for sleep-related breathing disorders.
- Collaboration: Working within multidisciplinary teams that may include cardiologists, critical care specialists, thoracic surgeons, and oncology specialists to ensure comprehensive care.
- Research: Staying updated on the latest advancements in respiratory medicine and participating in research to improve treatments and understanding of lung diseases
