Job Summary

Senior Full-Time Engineering Bengaluru Experience: 5-8 years. Qualification: Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field. Cloud or Spring certifications are a plus.

Role overview

We're looking for a senior Java engineer who has seen systems at scale, made architectural decisions they'd defend in a design review, and can bring the team along with them. You'll work on the core backend of a high-traffic UK ecommerce platform - improving performance, owning technical quality, and helping shape how we build things for the long term. If you don't default to 'that's how it's always been done', and you stay in a problem until it's genuinely solved, you'll fit right in.

Responsibilities

- Lead the design and development of backend services and features using Java and Spring Boot.
- Own architectural decisions for your domain - document tradeoffs, defend choices, revisit when needed.
- Drive performance optimisation and ensure high availability across backend services.
- Set the technical standard in code reviews - raise the bar, not just flag issues.
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers through pairing, design sessions, and structured feedback.
- Champion test-driven development (TDD) and advocate for it across the team.
- Evaluate and propose new tools, languages, or patterns when they genuinely improve outcomes - including non-Java options.
- Own and improve CI/CD pipelines to help the team ship with greater confidence.
- Collaborate across engineering, product, and QA to deliver complete, high-quality features.

Requirements

- 5-8 years of Java backend development experience in live, production environments.
- Deep knowledge of Java (8/17+), Spring Boot,



Spring MVC, and Hibernate/JPA.
- Strong API design experience - REST, versioning, error handling, rate limiting, contracts.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle DB or equivalent relational databases at scale.
- Production experience with messaging systems (RabbitMQ or Kafka).
- Ownership of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent).
- Tech-agnostic at core - open to Kotlin, Go, or whatever solves the problem best.
- A finisher: complex bugs, ambiguous requirements, and system unknowns don't stop you - they focus you.

Nice to have

- Production-level Elasticsearch experience for search or analytics workloads.
- AWS experience (EC2, SQS, S3, RDS) in a live ecommerce or high-traffic context.
- Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Exposure to event-driven or microservices architecture at scale.
- Prior experience in a technical lead or architect-adjacent role.
