Role Summary
We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer Machining with solid hands-on expertise in CNC Turning, VMC and HMC machining, CNC programming, process planning, tooling and fixture development.
The role will be responsible for developing and optimizing machining processes for new and existing products, supporting NPD / APQP activities, improving productivity and quality, reducing machining costs, and ensuring robust and standardized manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. CNC Programming & Machining
- Develop, modify and optimize CNC programs for Turning, VMC and HMC machines.
- Review machining drawings, specifications and manufacturing requirements.
- Develop machining sequences, cutting parameters and tool paths.
- Optimize cutting speed, feed, depth of cut and cycle time.
- Troubleshoot CNC machining issues related to dimensional variation, tool wear, chatter, burrs and surface finish.
- Support machine prove-out, trial runs and production stabilization.
2. Process Planning
- Develop process flow, operation sequence and machining process plans.
- Identify critical-to-quality characteristics and appropriate control methods.
- Establish process parameters, cycle times and machine loading requirements.
- Prepare and maintain process documentation, work instructions and process standards.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation and productivity improvement.
3. Tooling & Cutting Tool Management
- Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, holders and machining accessories.
- Develop cutting-tool strategies based on material, component geometry and machining requirements.
- Conduct tool trials and evaluate tool life and machining performance.
- Improve tool life, reduce tool consumption and optimize machining cost.
- Coordinate with tooling suppliers for tool development and trials.
4. Fixture Design & Development
- Develop and review machining fixture concepts and designs for CNC Turning, VMC and HMC.
- Ensure proper component location, clamping, accessibility and repeatability.
- Support fixture trials, validation and modifications.
- Identify opportunities for poka-yoke and error-proofing in fixtures.
5. NPD / APQP
- Support New Product Development (NPD) activities from feasibility through production launch.
- Participate in APQP activities for machining projects.
- Review customer drawings and manufacturing feasibility.
- Prepare / support:
- Process Flow Diagram
- PFMEA
- Control Plan
- Work Instructions
- Process Capability Studies
- MSA
- PPAP documentation
- Coordinate with Quality, Production, Tool Room, Design and other cross-functional teams during product development.
- Conduct process trials and support successful product launch.
6. Quality & Problem Solving
- Apply GD&T; principles for manufacturing and inspection requirements.
- Use AIAG Core Tools for process and quality planning.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis using 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D and other structured problem-solving techniques.
- Analyze machining-related rejection, rework and customer complaints.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions and verify effectiveness.
7. Cost & Productivity Improvement
- Prepare machining cost estimates based on cycle time, tooling, machine utilization and process requirements.
- Identify cost-reduction opportunities in machining operations.
- Drive reduction in:
- Cycle time
- Tooling cost
- Rejection / rework
- Setup time
- Machine downtime
- Material / process wastage
- Implement Kaizen, Poka-Yoke and process optimization initiatives.
