Senior Perl Backend Developer

Job Summary

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Senior Perl Backend Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in Perl backend development and will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable systems. This role requires a strong understanding of building and consuming RESTful APIs, along with mandatory experience in Perl, AWS (S3, SQS, SNS), and SQL.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and deploy new features and APIs using Perl, leveraging contemporary Perl frameworks such as Mojolicious, Catalyst, or Dancer.
- Develop and manage data workflows and integration pipelines using services such as AWS S3, SQS, and SNS.
- Collaborate with product managers, business stakeholders, and platform/system engineering teams to gather requirements and integrate new functionalities.
- Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues, ensuring effective monitoring with tools like New Relic or Jaeger.
- Contribute to and maintain CI/CD pipelines, and manage containerized environments.
- Write automation scripts to streamline operational and development tasks.
- Perform unit and integration testing to ensure high code quality and performance.
- Participate in code reviews, documentation, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Good to have: Implement computer vision or image-processing functionalities using OpenCV, Perl OpenCV bindings, or ImageMagick.
- Good to have: Collaborate on front-end development using React.

Required Skills & Qualifications

- Mandatory: Proficient in Perl with significant experience in backend development.
- Mandatory: Strong hands-on experience with AWS services, including S3, SQS, and SNS.




- Strong understanding of SQL and experience with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
- Proficient in building and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Experience with modern Perl frameworks such as Mojolicious, Catalyst, or Dancer.
- Familiarity with Perl package management tools such as CPAN and dependency management practices.
- Good to have: Experience with containerization using Docker or orchestration with Kubernetes (K8s).
- Good to have: Familiarity with front-end technologies, specifically React.
- Good to have: Experience with OpenCV, Perl image-processing libraries, and/or ImageMagick.
- Knowledge of monitoring tools like New Relic or Jaeger.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Experience

- 5+ years of experience in backend application development using Perl.
- Experience working in cloud-native environments and distributed systems.
- Understanding of event-driven architectures and messaging systems.
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
