Director- Finance (Job Overview)
We are looking for a strategic and hands-on finance leader to serve as Director – Finance and own the company’s financial strategy, planning, performance management, fundraising support, investor and board reporting, and business decision support. The Director will partner closely with the founders and leadership team to shape financial direction, enable sustainable growth, strengthen financial governance, and build a scalable finance function. This role requires a high degree of ownership and judgment, translating business priorities into financial plans, identifying risks and opportunities, and providing clear recommendations to the leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Own and drive the company’s financial strategy, long-term planning, and capital strategy in partnership with the founders and leadership team.
- Translate company strategy and operating priorities into financial plans, targets, budgets, and measurable performance metrics.
- Build and maintain robust financial models covering revenue, costs, headcount, cash flow, runway, profitability, and multiple growth scenarios.
- Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations on growth plans, expansion, pricing, margins, investments, and business model improvements.
- Act as a trusted financial advisor to the founders and leadership team, challenging assumptions and highlighting trade-offs, risks, and opportunities.
Fundraising, Investor & Board Management
- Lead the finance workstream for fundraising activities, including financial models, projections, valuation scenarios, data rooms, diligence, and investor materials.
- Partner with founders on fundraising strategy, capital requirements, financin
options, and investor engagement.
- Own the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of investor and board reporting.
- Serve as a key finance point of contact during investor diligence and financial discussions.
- Establish consistent financial metrics and reporting that provide investors and the board with a clear view of business performance.
FP&A;, Budgeting & Performance Management
- Own the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes.
- Establish a disciplined monthly and quarterly performance review process and track actuals against the plan, identifying drivers and corrective actions.
- Monitor cash flow, runway, working capital, burn, and capital allocation, ensuring leadership has explicit visibility into liquidity.
- Develop business dashboards and KPI reporting for revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, headcount, productivity, customer economics, and other critical metrics.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization, operational efficiency, and profitable growth.
Financial Governance, Controls & Risk Management
- Provide high-level oversight of accounting, tax, compliance, audit, treasury, and statutory financial processes in partnership with internal and external teams.
- Build and strengthen financial controls, approval frameworks, policies, and processes appropriate for a high-growth company.
- Ensure financial data is accurate, reliable, and decision-ready, with clear ownership and accountability.
- Identify, assess, and proactively manage financial, operational, and business risks.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, legal counsel, banking partners, and other financial service providers as required.
Leadership & Finance Function Building
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Finance team, setting clear goals, ownership, and performance expectations.
- Build a scalable finance organization, including processes, systems, reporting structures, and talent required to support the company’s next stage of growth.
- Delegate effectively while maintaining appropriate oversight of critical financial activities and deliverables.
- Create a culture of financial discipline, accountability, business partnership, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee finance operations at a strategic level without being involved in routine day-to- day accounting activities.
Business Partnering & Strategic Decision Support
- Partner with Sales, Operations, HR, Product, and other functional leaders on planning, resource allocation, and business decisions.
- Evaluate new business opportunities, partnerships, investments, expansion plans, and strategic initiatives from a financial and commercial perspective.
- Support pricing, deal economics, customer profitability, unit economics, and contract- elated financial decisions.
- Provide scenario analysis and financial recommendations for major business decisions.
- Drive cross-functional initiatives that improve business performance and financial outcomes.
Systems, Data & Process Excellence
- Establish scalable finance systems, reporting processes, and data infrastructure to support growth.
- Improve automation, reporting accuracy, close processes, forecasting discipline, and management visibility.
- Define and maintain a single source of truth for key financial and operating metrics.
- Continuously improve financial processes and controls as the organization scales.
Success in the Role
- The leadership team has timely, accurate, and actionable visibility into financial performance and business drivers.
- Forecasts, budgets, cash flow, and runway are reliable and actively used to make business decisions.
- Fundraising and investor and board reporting are executed with high quality, rigor, and credibility.
- The finance function is scalable, well-controlled, and capable of supporting rapid growth.
- Finance operates as a strategic business partner rather than only a reporting function.
- Key financial risks are identified early and addressed proactively
Required Qualifications
● CA / MBA Finance / CFA- mandatory.
● 11–15 years of progressive experience in Finance, Strategic Finance, FP&A;, Investment.
● Banking, Consulting, Corporate Finance, or Startup Finance, with demonstrated leadership experience.
● Strong experience in financial strategy, FP&A;, financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, and business planning.
● Proven experience supporting fundraising, investor management, board reporting and financial due diligence.
● Experience partnering directly with founders, CEOs, senior leadership teams, and/or boards.
● Strong understanding of business metrics, unit economics, pricing, margins, and growth-stage financial management.
● Demonstrated ability to build and lead finance teams and establish scalable processes and controls.
● Strong analytical, commercial, strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder- management skills.
● Ability to operate at both strategic and execution levels in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
● Startup, SaaS, healthcare technology, AI, or high-growth company experience preferred.
