Head of Operations (Medical Coding)- Job Overview

We’re looking for an experienced and client-facing Head of Operations – Medical Coding to join our team in Bangalore to lead day-to-day operations across our medical coding delivery teams. This is a leadership role focused on driving operational excellence – productivity, turnaround time (TAT), quality and SLA adherence – while owning client relationships and acting as the primary operational escalation point. The role requires robust people leadership, a firm grip on operational metrics, and the confidence to engage directly with clients on performance and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

● Operational Leadership: Own end-to-end day-to-day operations of the medical coding team(s), ensuring productivity, turnaround time (TAT), quality and SLA targets are consistently met across accounts.

● Client Engagement & Relationship Management: Act as the primary operational point of contact for clients – lead governance calls, business reviews and performance discussions; build trusted, long-term client relationships.

● Team Management: Lead,



mentor and manage team leads, supervisors and coders; build a scalable, high-performing operations structure, and drive hiring, onboarding and career development.

● Capacity & Resource Planning: Forecast volumes, plan staffing and shift coverage, and manage utilization and productivity across accounts to meet client SLAs.

● Escalation Management: Own resolution of operational escalations and client issues, driving timely root-cause analysis and corrective action plans.

● New Client Onboarding: Lead operational onboarding of new clients and accounts, ensuring a smooth transition into steady-state operations.

● Process Optimization: Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities and best practices to enhance efficiency and reduce turnaround time.

● Strategic Collaboration: Partner closely with the Head of Coding, QA, Product, Technology and Compliance teams to align operations with quality standards, compliance requirements and the technology roadmap.

● Reporting: Provide detailed, regular reporting on operational KPIs – productivity, quality, TAT and SLA adherence – to leadership and clients.

Required qualifications:





● Certification: CPC, CCS or equivalent (AAPC or AHIMA) – Required. CRC or CPMA is a plus.

● Experience: 10–12+ years in medical coding / RCM operations, including at least 5 years in an operations leadership role managing large, multi-account teams.

● Client-Facing Skills: Proven experience managing US-based clients – governance calls, business reviews, performance reporting and escalation handling; strong presentation and communication skills.

● Domain Knowledge: Solid working knowledge of medical coding operations and RCM workflows (CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS); certification (CPC, CCS or equivalent from AAPC/AHIMA) is a plus.

● Team Management: Demonstrated track record managing large coding/operations teams, including team leads and supervisors, in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment.

● Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical ability to interpret operational data, identify trends, drive workforce planning and optimize delivery workflows.

● Process Orientation: Experience setting up or scaling operational processes, SOPs and quality frameworks in a coding or RCM environment.

● Professionalism: High ethical standards, confidentiality and a collaborative, hands-on leadership style.
