Position: Assistant Bartender

Reporting To: Bar Manager / Beverage Manager / Café Operations Manager

Job Purpose

The Assistant Bartender will support the Bartender and Beverage Team in the efficient preparation and service of beverages, including tea-based beverages, mocktails, specialty drinks, and other café beverages. The role requires excellent hygiene, beverage-handling skills, speed, accuracy, and a robust customer-service attitude.

Key Responsibilities

1. Beverage Preparation

· Assist the Bartender in preparing beverages according to approved recipes and presentation standards.

· Prepare tea-based beverages, specialty teas, iced teas, mocktails, coolers, smoothies, and other non-alcoholic beverages as per the café menu.

· Support the preparation of beverage garnishes, syrups, mixes, infusions, and other ingredients.

· Ensure consistency in taste, quality, quantity, and presentation.

2. Bar Operations

· Set up and maintain the beverage counter before, during, and after service.

· Keep all bar equipment, utensils, glassware, and workstations clean and properly arranged.

· Replenish tea, fruits, herbs, syrups, mixers, garnishes, ice, and other beverage supplies.

· Assist in opening and closing duties of the beverage section.

· Follow proper storage and handling procedures for all ingredients.

3. Tea & Beverage Knowledge

· Develop a valuable understanding of the company's tea varieties and their characteristics.

· Learn and maintain knowledge of tea brewing methods, steeping times, temperatures,



and appropriate presentation.

· Assist in creating and serving signature tea-based beverages.

· Maintain awareness of new beverage trends and techniques relevant to the café.

4. Hygiene & Food Safety

· Follow all company hygiene, sanitation, and food-safety standards.

· Maintain personal grooming and hygiene as per café standards.

· Ensure proper cleaning and sanitisation of equipment and work areas.

· Follow FIFO and proper ingredient storage practices.

· Report any damaged, expired, or contaminated ingredients immediately.

5. Customer Service

· Assist in serving beverages professionally and courteously.

· Understand customer requirements and communicate beverage options when required.

· Handle basic customer queries regarding tea and beverages.

· Coordinate with the service team to ensure timely order delivery.

· Escalate customer complaints or service issues to the senior bartender/manager.

6. Inventory & Cost Control

· Monitor beverage ingredients and inform the senior bartender of low-stock items.

· Minimise wastage through proper measurement, preparation, and storage.

· Assist with daily stock checking and inventory control.

· Follow standard portion sizes and approved recipes to maintain beverage cost control.

Team Coordination

· Coordinate effectively with Bartenders, Baristas, Service Associates, Kitchen, Cashier, and Café Management.

· Support the team during peak business hours and special events.

· Follow instructions from the Bar Manager / Café Operations Manager.

· Maintain discipline and professional conduct within the workplace.

Key Skills & Competencies

· Basic knowledge of bartending and beverage preparation.

· Knowledge of tea and tea-based beverages will be an advantage.

· Positive communication and interpersonal skills.

· Strong customer-service orientation.

· Ability to work efficiently under pressure.

· Good attention to detail and presentation.

· Basic knowledge of hygiene and food-safety practices.

· Team player with a positive and disciplined attitude.

· Willingness to learn new beverage techniques and recipes.

Qualification & Experience

· Minimum 10+2 / Diploma / Certificate in Hospitality or related field preferred.

· 1–2 years of experience in a café, restaurant, hotel, bar, or beverage outlet preferred.

· Freshers with relevant hospitality training and a strong interest in beverages may also be considered.
