2. Job Purpose

The TGT – Chemistry & Biology will be responsible for delivering engaging, concept-driven and CBSE-aligned Science education to students of Grades 9 and 10, with particular emphasis on Chemistry and Biology.

The teacher will be expected to create a stimulating learning environment that develops conceptual understanding, scientific temper, critical thinking, application-based learning, experimental skills and academic excellence, while nurturing curiosity and responsible citizenship among students.

The role requires a teacher who can effectively integrate experiential learning, laboratory work, technology, competency-based pedagogy and interdisciplinary connections into classroom teaching.

3. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Teaching & Learning

- Plan and deliver well-structured, engaging and age-appropriate lessons for Grades 9–10 in accordance with the CBSE curriculum, NCERT framework and school academic plan.
- Demonstrate strong conceptual understanding of Chemistry and Biology and explain complex scientific concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
- Use a variety of teaching strategies including:
- Inquiry-based learning
- Experiential learning
- Activity-based learning
- Project-based learning
- Collaborative learning
- Problem-solving and application-based approaches
- Competency-based learning
- Relate classroom concepts to real-life situations, current scientific developments and everyday applications.
- Differentiate instruction to address varied learning abilities and learning needs within the classroom.
- Encourage students to ask questions, investigate, analyse, hypothesise and arrive at evidence-based conclusions.
- Maintain a positive, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment.

B. Chemistry & Biology Subject Responsibilities

The teacher should demonstrate strong command over CBSE/NCERT concepts including, but not limited to:

Chemistry:

- Matter and its properties
- Atomic structure
- Periodic classification
- Chemical bonding and chemical reactions
- Acids, bases and salts
- Metals and non-metals
- Carbon compounds
- Relevant numerical and application-based concepts
- Laboratory techniques and safe handling of chemicals

Biology:

- Cell biology
- Tissues
- Life processes
- Control and coordination
- Reproduction
- Heredity and evolution
- Our environment
- Natural resources
- Health, hygiene and related biological applications

The teacher should be capable of connecting Chemistry and Biology concepts with environmental science, health, sustainability, biotechnology and everyday life wherever appropriate.

4. Laboratory & Practical Learning

- Plan and conduct meaningful Chemistry and Biology practicals, demonstrations and laboratory activities.
- Ensure that laboratory activities are conducted in accordance with school safety protocols.
- Train students in proper laboratory practices, observation, recording, analysis and scientific reporting.
- Encourage students to maintain accurate practical records.
- Develop easy experiments, demonstrations and models using locally available and cost-effective resources where appropriate.
- Ensure proper use, handling and care of laboratory equipment and materials.
- Coordinate with the laboratory assistant/lab in-charge regarding practical requirements.
- Promote scientific inquiry through experiments, investigations and student-led projects.

5. Assessment & Academic Monitoring

- Design and conduct formative and summative assessments aligned with CBSE competency-based assessment practices.
- Prepare:

- Competency-based and case-based questions




- Analyse student performance and identify learning gaps.
- Maintain accurate and timely assessment records.
- Provide constructive and specific feedback to students.
- Develop and implement remedial/support plans for students requiring additional academic assistance.
- Provide enrichment/challenge opportunities to high-performing students.
- Participate actively in periodic assessment reviews and academic result analysis.
- Work towards continuous improvement in student learning outcomes.

6. Board Examination Preparation – Grade 10

- Prepare Grade 10 students systematically for the CBSE Board Examination.
- Ensure thorough coverage and revision of the prescribed syllabus within the academic timeline.
- Develop students' ability to answer:
- Competency-based questions
- Case-study questions
- Assertion-reasoning questions
- Application-based questions
- Higher-order thinking questions
- Conduct regular practice, revision and mock assessments.
- Analyse examination patterns and student responses to identify areas requiring reinforcement.
- Provide targeted academic support to students based on their performance.
- Maintain a healthy balance between examination preparation and genuine conceptual learning.

7. Classroom Management

- Establish clear classroom expectations and maintain discipline through a positive and respectful approach.
- Build strong teacher-student relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Promote student participation, collaboration and responsible behaviour.
- Address classroom concerns proactively and communicate significant concerns to the appropriate authority.
- Ensure punctuality, preparedness and effective utilisation of instructional time.

8. Technology Integration

- Integrate appropriate digital tools and educational technology into teaching and learning.
- Use presentations, simulations, videos, virtual laboratories, interactive resources and digital assessment tools where they add genuine pedagogical value.
- Explore appropriate AI-enabled educational tools to support lesson planning, differentiated learning, assessment and student engagement, while ensuring responsible and ethical use.
- Maintain digital academic records and use the school's prescribed academic/ERP systems effectively.

9. Student Development & Beyond-the-Classroom Responsibilities

- Mentor and guide students in academic and personal development within the teacher's professional role.
- Encourage participation in:
- Science exhibitions
- Olympiads
- Science quizzes
- STEM activities
- Inter-school competitions
- Research/project-based activities
- Guide students in developing scientific models, projects and presentations.
- Encourage curiosity, creativity, environmental awareness and scientific thinking.
- Support school clubs, assemblies, exhibitions, events and other academic initiatives as assigned.

10. Collaboration & Teamwork

- Work collaboratively with the Science HOD, fellow Science teachers and other subject teachers.
- Participate actively in department meetings, curriculum planning and academic reviews.
- Share effective teaching practices and resources with colleagues.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary and cross-curricular projects.
- Coordinate effectively with parents regarding students' academic progress and concerns, whenever required.
- Maintain professional and constructive communication with all stakeholders.

11. Curriculum Planning & Professional Responsibilities

- Prepare annual, term-wise, unit-wise and lesson plans as required by the school.




- Ensure timely completion of the curriculum without compromising conceptual understanding.
- Maintain required academic documentation accurately and within deadlines.
- Participate in school orientations, workshops, training programmes and professional development initiatives.

- CBSE curriculum and assessment changes

- Contemporary Science education practices

14. Educational Qualifications

Essential:

- Bachelor's Degree in Science with relevant specialisation in Chemistry/Biology or an appropriate combination of Science subjects.
- B.Ed. from a recognised institution.
- Fulfilment of applicable CBSE/NCTE/CTET or other statutory eligibility requirements, as applicable to the position.

Desirable:

- Master's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline.
- Additional certifications in Science/STEM education, educational technology or competency-based pedagogy.

15. Experience

- Preferably 3–6 years of teaching experience in a reputed CBSE/ICSE/IB/Cambridge or comparable school.
- Experience teaching Grades 9–10 is strongly preferred.
- Experience with CBSE Board Examination classes will be an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience in improving student learning outcomes and handling diverse learners.
- Experience in conducting Science practicals, exhibitions, Olympiads or STEM activities will be an added advantage.
