JOB DESCRIPTION – TECHNICIAN(Automobile Company )
Job Title: Jr. Technician
Department: Service & Operations
Reporting To: Floor Supervisor / Head Technician
Location: As per business requirement
1. Role Definition
The Technician is responsible for completing assigned technical and service-related tasks accurately, safely, and within defined timelines while maintaining company quality standards and delivering an excellent customer experience.
The role also involves supporting store operations, inventory management, equipment maintenance, customer education, and business growth by identifying relevant service opportunities and recommending appropriate services to customers.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Take over the responsibilities of Junior Technicians and Senior Technicians during their absence to ensure uninterrupted service operations.
- Execute all assigned technical work in accordance with company SOPs, quality standards, safety guidelines, and specified timelines.
- Maintain accurate inventory records related to tires, batteries, wheel weights, tools, equipment, and other service materials.
- Ensure proper storage, cleanliness, organization, and maintenance of the service area, store, machines, equipment, and tools.
- Open and close the branch as per the designated schedule and ensure the premises are properly arranged and secured.
- Maintain professional grooming, hygiene, uniform, and workplace discipline at all times.
- Support customer satisfaction by explaining technical services, identifying customer requirements, and recommending relevant additional services.
- Complete inspection checklists and ensure service findings are properly communicated to customers through the Floor Supervisor.
- Support Junior Technicians by providing technical guidance, assistance, and on-the-job mentoring.
- Complete all jobs as per job cards and ensure that every required service checkpoint is properly completed.
- Assist team members whenever required to ensure smooth workflow, productivity, and timely completion of jobs.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, safety standards, and operational guidelines.
3. Detailed Tasks & ActivitiesA. Inventory Management
- Maintain proper storage and organization of tires and batteries in the warehouse/store.
- Coordinate with Junior Technicians and other staff to maintain systematic inventory arrangements.
- Issue tires, batteries, and other service materials as required for service operations.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory movement and usage.
- Collect used wheel weights, clean and organize them, and submit them to Head Office within the specified timeline.
- Report shortages, damages, discrepancies, or inventory-related issues to the concerned supervisor.
B. Store, Tools & Equipment Maintenance
- Clean machines, equipment, tools, and work areas on a daily basis.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are returned to their designated locations after use.
- Conduct basic checks of machines and equipment and report any malfunction or damage immediately.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the service area.
- Coordinate with housekeeping staff to maintain a hygienic, safe, and customer-friendly environment.
- Ensure equipment and tools are handled carefully to prevent damage.
C. Store Operations & Compliance
- Open and close the branch according to the designated operating schedule.
- Ensure the branch is properly arranged before starting daily operations.
- Ensure machines, equipment, tools, and service areas are safely positioned to prevent accidents.
- Follow all company rules, regulations, policies, SOPs, and safety requirements.
- Maintain personal hygiene and professional grooming standards, including a clean uniform and neat appearance.
- Promote discipline, teamwork, and a positive working environment within the branch.
- Immediately report safety hazards, accidents, equipment damage, or operational issues to the supervisor.
D. Customer Experience & Business Development
- Educate customers about technical services and explain their benefits in a simple and professional manner.
- Understand customer requirements and recommend relevant services based on actual vehicle/service needs.
- Build customer trust through transparent communication and quality service.
- Complete all inspection checklist points accurately.
- Ensure inspection findings and service recommendations are communicated to customers through the Floor Supervisor.
- Identify opportunities for additional services without compromising customer trust or service quality.
- Contribute to revenue generation and customer retention through quality service and professional customer interaction.
E. Technical Service Execution
Perform assigned technical services in accordance with SOPs, manufacturer guidelines, safety standards, and quality requirements, including:
- Air pressure checks
- Puncture repairs
- Tire fitting for all sizes
- Wheel balancing
- Brake servicing
- Brake skimming
- AC servicing
- Two-wheeler tire fitting and balancing
- Battery-related services
- Tire and wheel-related services
- Preventive maintenance and basic technical checks
- Any other technical service assigned by the supervisor
Additional responsibilities:
- Complete assigned jobs within the specified turnaround time.
- Follow job cards accurately and ensure all required service checkpoints are completed.
- Verify work before handing over the vehicle/service to avoid repeat complaints or rework.
- Use tools, machines, and equipment safely and correctly.
- Assist other technicians whenever required.
- Report technical problems that require senior-level intervention.
- Ensure no damage occurs to the vehicle, equipment, tools, or customer property during service execution.
F. Team Support & Technical Guidance
- Support Junior Technicians in completing their assigned tasks.
- Guide Junior Technicians on proper procedures, tools,
equipment usage, and safety practices.
- Share technical knowledge and practical experience with team members.
- Assist the Head Technician/Floor Supervisor in maintaining smooth service operations.
- Take responsibility for assigned work and support the team during high workload periods.
4. Performance Indicators / KPIs
Performance will be evaluated based on the following parameters:
- Attendance: Maintain a minimum monthly attendance of 95%.
- Service Quality: Minimize customer complaints, repeat issues, rework, and service failures.
- Technical Accuracy: Complete assigned work correctly as per SOPs and quality standards.
- Productivity: Complete assigned jobs within the required quantity and turnaround time.
- Safety: Maintain zero avoidable damage to vehicles, equipment, machines, tools, and customer property.
- Customer Experience: Maintain professional behavior and contribute to positive customer feedback.
- Inventory Accuracy: Maintain accurate inventory records and minimize discrepancies or losses.
- Store Discipline: Maintain cleanliness, organization, equipment upkeep, and branch readiness.
- Process Compliance: Follow job cards, checklists, SOPs, safety guidelines, and company policies consistently.
- Teamwork: Provide effective support and technical guidance to Junior Technicians and other team members.
- Business Contribution: Support additional service recommendations and revenue generation through genuine customer needs.
- Behavior & Conduct: No justified complaints regarding misconduct, poor behavior, negligence, or lack of cooperation with team members.
5. Required Skills & Competencies
- Robust technical knowledge of automotive service operations.
- Practical knowledge of tires, wheels, brakes, batteries, AC servicing, and related vehicle services.
- Ability to operate service machines, tools, and equipment safely.
