Job Summary
The Optometrist will be responsible for providing comprehensive eye examinations, diagnosing refractive errors, assisting in the detection of ocular diseases, and delivering high-quality patient care. The role requires close collaboration with ophthalmologists to support clinical services, surgical evaluations, patient counselling, and community eye care initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations and visual assessments.
- Perform objective and subjective refraction and prescribe appropriate corrective lenses.
- Assess visual acuity, binocular vision, colour vision, and visual fields.
- Perform contact lens fitting and provide patient education regarding lens care.
- Identify signs of ocular diseases and refer patients to ophthalmologists for further evaluation and management.
- Conduct diagnostic investigations using ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records in the hospital information system.
Surgical Support
- Conduct pre-operative assessments for cataract, refractive, corneal, retina, and other ophthalmic surgeries.
- Provide post-operative evaluations and monitor patient recovery.
- Educate patients regarding surgical procedures, expected outcomes, and follow-up requirements.
Community & Outreach Activities
- Participate in vision screening programs, eye camps, and community outreach initiatives.
- Support awareness programs related to eye health and preventive ophthalmology.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, infection control measures, and quality standards.
- Maintain and calibrate optometry equipment as per established guidelines.
- Participate in departmental audits, training programs, and continuous career development activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom) from a recognized institution.
- Master of Optometry (M.Optom) preferred.
Experience
- 2–5 years of relevant clinical experience in a hospital or eye care setting.
- Experience in ophthalmology clinics or specialty eye hospitals preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong refraction and diagnostic skills.
- Knowledge of ophthalmic equipment such as Auto Refractometer, Lensometer, OCT, Perimetry, A-Scan, and Keratometer.
- Experience in contact lens fitting and low vision assessment.
- Excellent patient counseling and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary eye care team.
- Basic computer proficiency and experience with EMR/HIS systems.
Pay: Up to ₹30,000.00 per month
