Summary:
As an Application Support Engineer, a typical day involves acting as a software detective by investigating and resolving issues across various components of essential business systems. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying system anomalies and ensuring the smooth operation of critical applications. The position demands continuous monitoring, troubleshooting, and collaborating with different teams to maintain system stability and performance, thereby supporting the overall business objectives effectively and efficiently.

Roles & Responsibilities:

- Expected to be an SME, collaborate and manage the team to perform.
- Responsible for team decisions.
- Own and resolve L3 escalations for Solaris and AIX environments, ensuring SLA compliance and minimal business impact.
- Perform root-cause analysis (RCA) for critical incidents author post-incident review documents and preventive action plans.
- Manage OS patching, firmware updates, and security hardening across all Unix platforms.
- Administer Solaris Zones / LDOMs and IBM AIX LPARs / WPARs with full lifecycle ownership.
- Monitor system health, capacity, and performance using enterprise monitoring tools proactively tune systems.
- Coordinate with storage, network, and application teams for integrated problem resolution.
- Administer Oracle Solaris 10 / 11.x environments including ZFS, ZFS send/receive, and DTrace-based diagnostics.
- Manage Solaris Cluster (Oracle RAC integration) for HA and DR configurations.
- Configure and maintain SMF services, RBAC, Audit Framework,



and Solaris Security Toolkit (SST).
- Manage SPARC and x86 hardware (T-series, M-series) liaise with Oracle support for hardware issues.
- Administer Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) and Veritas File System (VxFS) on Solaris.
- Administer IBM Power Systems running AIX 7.x manage LPARs via HMC and IVM.
- Configure and manage VIO Server (VIOS) for shared storage and network virtualisation.
- Administer JFS2 filesystems, LVM (PVs, VGs, LVs), and ASM disk groups on AIX.
- Handle AIX security hardening in line with CIS benchmarks and enterprise policies.
- Manage nim (Network Installation Manager) environments for OS deployments and alt disk migrations.
- Perform AIX performance analysis using tools such as nmon, topas, vmstat, and sar.
- Design and implement automation frameworks using Shell (KSH/Bash), Python, Ansible, and/or Puppet to reduce manual toil.

Develop automated patching, compliance-check, and deployment pipelines for Unix platforms.

- Integrate Unix infrastructure automation with ITSM tools (ServiceNow, JIRA) via APIs.
- Champion infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices within the Unix team.
- Conduct periodic automation audits and retire legacy manual runbooks.
- Lead and mentor a team of Unix system administrators define goals and conduct performance reviews.
- Collaborate with project managers and architects on infrastructure design for new initiatives.
- Engage with third-party vendors (Oracle, IBM) for contract management and escalation support.
- Produce management-level reporting on system availability, capacity trends, and project status.




- Participate in CAB (Change Advisory Board) and ensure all changes adhere to change management processes.

Professional & Technical Skills:

- Must To Have Skills: Proficiency in AIX System Administration.
- Strong knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems and shell scripting.
- Experience with system performance tuning and capacity planning.
- Familiarity with incident management and problem resolution methodologies.
- Ability to analyze system logs and diagnose complex technical issues.
- Understanding of backup and recovery procedures in enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience handling L3 incidents in 24 7 production environments.
- Strong scripting proficiency in Shell (Bash/KSH) and Python exposure to Ansible or equivalent automation tools.
- Deep expertise in Solaris Zones, LDOMs, ZFS, and Solaris Cluster.
- Deep expertise in AIX LPAR management, VIOS, NIM, and AIX LVM.
- Oracle Certified Solaris Administrator or IBM Certified Systems Expert – AIX.
- Experience with ITIL-aligned service management ITIL Foundation certification is advantageous.
- Familiarity with cloud-native or hybrid Unix workloads (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, IBM Power Virtual Server).
- Exposure to containerisation (Podman/Docker) on Unix platforms.
- Prior experience in a people-manager or team-lead role.
- Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for critical production systems.
- Ability to work under pressure in a rapid-paced, enterprise-grade operational environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Collaborative attitude with cross-functional teams and external vendors.

Additional Information:

- The candidate should have minimum 7.5 years of experience in AIX System Administration.
- This position is based at our Bengaluru office.
- A 15 years full time education is required.
