Role Overview

The Lab Manager will have end-to-end ownership of the in-house pathology laboratory, including laboratory

operations, manpower, quality, TAT, equipment, inventory, vendor management, documentation and compliance.

The role will ensure that the laboratory delivers accurate, reliable and timely results while maintaining high standards

of patient safety and laboratory quality.

Key Responsibilities

A. End-to-End Laboratory Operations

● Own daily operations of the pathology laboratory.

● Ensure smooth functioning of: Hematology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Clinical Pathology / Urinalysis.

● Establish and maintain laboratory SOPs.

● Ensure proper sample flow from receipt to testing and reporting.

● Monitor daily workload and manpower allocation.

● Ensure appropriate shift coverage.

B. Quality Management

● Establish and maintain laboratory quality systems.

● Ensure adherence to SOPs and quality-control protocols.

● Review internal QC performance.

● Monitor calibration and preventive maintenance schedules.

● Investigate QC failures, errors, complaints and non-conformities.

● Implement CAPA where required.

● Conduct periodic process audits.





● Maintain all mandatory laboratory records and documentation.

C. TAT & Reporting

● Own pathology report TAT.

● Monitor sample-to-report lifecycle.

● Track pending samples and delayed reports.

● Identify root causes for TAT breaches.

● Coordinate with reporting technicians and medical/reporting teams.

● Ensure accurate and timely release of reports.

D. Equipment Management

● Own uptime and operational readiness of all laboratory equipment.

● Maintain equipment maintenance schedules.

● Coordinate AMC/service requirements.

● Coordinate with equipment vendors and service engineers.

● Ensure calibration and preventive maintenance are completed on time.

● Maintain equipment logs and breakdown records.

E. Inventory & Reagent Management

● Maintain adequate stock of reagents, consumables and other laboratory supplies.

● Establish minimum/maximum stock levels.

● Monitor reagent consumption and expiry.

● Prevent stock-outs and wastage.

● Coordinate procurement with the central operations/procurement team.

● Verify received materials against purchase orders.

F. Manpower Management

● Manage technicians and laboratory staff.

● Prepare rosters and shift schedules.

● Monitor attendance and productivity.

● Conduct training and competency assessments.

● Identify manpower requirements.

● Ensure staff are trained on SOPs, analyzers, safety and quality procedures.

G. Compliance & Safety





● Ensure compliance with applicable laboratory, biomedical waste and safety requirements.

● Maintain documentation required for inspections/audits.

● Ensure appropriate PPE and biosafety practices.

● Ensure proper biomedical waste segregation.

● Maintain patient confidentiality and data security.

H. Incident & Escalation Management

Own investigation and resolution of:

● Sample mix-ups

● Wrong patient/sample identification

● Sample rejection

● QC failures

● Analyzer breakdowns

● Reagent shortages

● Reporting errors

● Delayed reports

● Critical value communication issues

● Customer complaints related to pathology reports

Required Qualifications

● B.Sc. MLT / DMLT (Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology) / M.Sc. MLT preferred.

● 5–8+ years of pathology laboratory experience, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory/managerial role.

● Strong hands-on understanding of Hematology, Biochemistry, Immunology and Clinical Pathology.

● Experience managing automated laboratory analyzers.

● Solid knowledge of laboratory QC, SOPs and documentation.

● Experience in diagnostic-chain or NABL-oriented laboratory environments preferred.

Operations — Sample processing efficiency

Inventory — Stock-out incidents

Reagents — Expiry/wastage %

Compliance — SOP & documentation compliance

Manpower — Staff productivity & attendance

Customer Experience — Pathology-related complaints

Incidents — Critical incident closure TAT

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹65,000.00 per month
