JOB DESCRIPTION – JUNIOR COSTING ENGINEER

Position: Junior Costing Engineer
Department: Costing / Commercial
Reports To: Manager – Costing / Operation Head
Location: Trailer Louault India Pvt. Ltd., Chakan, Pune

Job Purpose

To prepare accurate and competitive product costing for fabricated components and assemblies by analysing material, manufacturing processes, labour, overheads and other cost elements. The role will focus on Product Costing, Zero-Based Costing and Should Costing for heavy fabrication and engineering products.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare detailed Product Costing for fabricated components, assemblies and finished products.
- Develop Zero-Based Costing (ZBC) based on actual material, process and resource requirements.
- Prepare Should Costing for fabricated parts, assemblies and bought-out components.
- Analyse engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications and manufacturing processes for costing.
- Calculate raw material quantity, weight, yield, scrap, cutting loss and material utilisation.
- Calculate fabrication process costs including cutting, bending, welding, machining, grinding, assembly and finishing.
- Estimate direct labour, machine hours, consumables, tooling and manufacturing overheads.
- Analyse supplier quotations and validate the cost against internal Should Cost / Target Cost.
- Identify cost gaps and opportunities for cost reduction and value engineering.
- Conduct cost comparison between existing and proposed manufacturing processes.
- Support quotation preparation and commercial evaluation for new products/projects.
- Work closely with Design, Purchase, Production, PPC, Quality and Supplier Development teams for costing inputs.
- Analyse actual vs. estimated cost and identify major cost variances.
- Maintain product costing database, standard cost sheets and historical costing data.
- Prepare costing reports and MIS for management review.




- Support negotiations with suppliers by providing detailed cost break-up and should-cost analysis.

Industry Experience

Experience in any of the following industries will be preferred:

- Heavy Fabrication
- Trailer / Semi-Trailer Manufacturing
- Structural Steel Fabrication
- Automobile / Auto Components
- Engineering Manufacturing
- Capital Equipment / Industrial Equipment

Qualification

- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

Experience

- 2–5 years of relevant experience in Product Costing / Cost Estimation / Should Costing / Commercial Costing.
- Strong preference for candidates having hands-on experience in fabrication costing.

Technical Skills

- Strong knowledge of MS Excel and advanced costing techniques.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and BOMs.
- Good understanding of fabrication processes and manufacturing methods.
- Knowledge of material grades, specifications and market price trends.
- Knowledge of cost structures and manufacturing economics.
- ERP/MRP knowledge will be an added advantage.
- AutoCAD knowledge will be preferred.

Preferred Candidate Profile

A technically strong costing skilled with hands-on exposure to fabrication product costing, Zero-Based Costing and Should Costing, capable of independently developing a detailed cost model from drawing → BOM → material → process → labour → overhead → final product cost.

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
