GENERAL MANAGER – MANUFACTURING

Retired / Senior Manufacturing Professional

Location: Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
Employment Type: Full-Time / Consultant / Re-employment
Reporting To: CEO / Managing Director
Experience: 25+ Years in Manufacturing | Previous GM / Plant Head / Operations Head Experience

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a highly experienced retired General Manager / Plant Head / Operations Head from the manufacturing industry who can bring decades of practical experience in manufacturing operations, production management, team leadership, process improvement, quality, cost control, and organizational management.

The candidate will work closely with the senior management and play a key role in strengthening manufacturing operations, mentoring the existing team, improving productivity, establishing systems, and ensuring timely execution of organizational objectives.

This role is particularly suited for a retired senior professional who is willing to actively contribute their experience and mentor a growing manufacturing organization.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Manufacturing & Operations Management

- Oversee and guide overall manufacturing and factory operations.
- Ensure production targets, quality standards, and delivery schedules are achieved.
- Monitor production planning, capacity utilization, manpower, machines, materials, and resources.
- Identify production bottlenecks and implement practical solutions.
- Improve productivity, operational efficiency, and manufacturing discipline.
- Ensure smooth coordination between Production, Purchase, Stores, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Service teams.

2. Leadership & Team Management

- Lead, guide, and mentor department heads, managers, engineers, and supervisors.
- Establish clear responsibilities, accountability, and performance expectations.
- Review departmental performance and ensure timely completion of assigned objectives.
- Develop and mentor second-line leadership within the organization.
- Encourage a disciplined, responsible, and performance-oriented work culture.

3. Process & System Improvement

- Review existing manufacturing processes and identify gaps.
- Establish and improve SOPs, work processes, reporting systems, and performance monitoring.
- Introduce practical manufacturing best practices based on previous industry experience.
- Improve production flow and reduce unnecessary delays, idle time, wastage, and rework.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives wherever applicable.

4. Quality, Cost & Productivity





- Work closely with Quality teams to reduce rejection, rework, and customer complaints.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising quality.
- Improve manpower productivity and machine utilization.
- Reduce material wastage, production losses, and avoidable operational expenses.
- Monitor key manufacturing KPIs and drive corrective actions.

5. Planning & Execution

- Review daily, weekly, and monthly production plans.
- Monitor actual performance against planned targets.
- Identify reasons for delays and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Ensure timely completion of customer orders and internal projects.
- Coordinate with senior management to resolve critical operational issues.

6. Management Support & Strategic Guidance

- Work closely with the CEO / Directors on operational and strategic decisions.
- Provide practical recommendations based on extensive manufacturing experience.
- Support management in scaling manufacturing capacity and organizational capabilities.
- Participate in management review meetings and provide insights on operational performance.
- Act as a senior escalation point for critical manufacturing and operational challenges.

7. Mentoring & Knowledge Transfer

- Transfer practical industry knowledge to young managers, engineers, and supervisors.
- Guide teams in solving technical, operational, production, and people-related challenges.
- Train employees on effective manufacturing practices and management discipline.
- Help build a strong culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Experience

- 25+ years of overall experience in the manufacturing industry.




- Must have previously held a senior management position such as:
- General Manager – Manufacturing
- General Manager – Operations
- Plant Head
- Factory Head
- Manufacturing Head
- Operations Head
- Equivalent senior leadership role
- Retired / recently retired manufacturing professionals are strongly preferred.
- Should have hands-on experience managing manufacturing operations and sizeable teams.
- Experience in managing multiple departments and cross-functional operations is essential.

Educational Qualification

- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering or related discipline preferred.
- MBA / PGDM in Operations / Management will be an added advantage.
- Strong practical industry experience will be given greater importance.

The ideal candidate is a retired General Manager / Plant Head / Operations Head from a reputed manufacturing organization who has successfully managed manufacturing operations and teams for many years and now wishes to contribute their knowledge and experience to a growing organization.

The person should be capable of acting as a Senior Manufacturing Leader, Mentor, Problem Solver, and Strategic Advisor, helping the organization build robust systems, improve productivity, develop people, and achieve its manufacturing and business objectives.

Pay: ₹60,000.00 - ₹80,000.00 per month
