Revenue Accountant

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Revenue Accountant to own end-to-end revenue accounting for our SaaS subscription business. This role is responsible for applying US GAAP (ASC 606) revenue recognition to complex, multi-element SaaS contracts, managing the monthly revenue close, and partnering closely with Sales, Legal, FP&A;, and Order-to-Cash teams. The ideal candidate has deep hands-on experience with subscription/SaaS revenue models, deferred revenue, and revenue automation systems, and is comfortable operating independently in a fast-moving, high-growth environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply ASC 606 to SaaS, subscription, and multi-element arrangements, including identification of performance obligations and determination of standalone selling price (SSP).
- Review new and amended customer contracts (SaaS subscriptions, professional services, usage-based/consumption fees, bundled deals) and determine appropriate revenue treatment.
- Prepare and maintain deferred revenue schedules, revenue waterfalls, and contract asset/liability roll-forwards.
- Own the monthly and quarterly revenue close: journal entries, account reconciliations, flux analysis, and variance commentary.
- Partner with Sales Operations, Deal Desk, and Legal to review non-standard contract terms and advise on revenue impact prior to deal signing.
- Maintain and reconcile SaaS metrics used by the business, including ARR, MRR, billed vs. recognized revenue, and churn/renewal impacts, in coordination with FP&A.;
- Manage the revenue recognition sub-ledger / RevRec tool (e.g., Salesforce Billing) and ensure accurate configuration and data integrity between CRM, billing, and the general ledger.
- Draft technical accounting memos and position papers for new, unusual, or judgmental revenue arrangements.
- Support internal SOX controls over revenue and billing, including control execution, documentation,
and remediation of gaps.
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors on revenue-related requests; prepare audit schedules and support walkthroughs.
- Identify and drive process improvements and automation opportunities to scale revenue accounting as the business grows.
- Assist with technical accounting research and documentation for new products, pricing models, or go-to-market changes (e.g., usage-based pricing, bundling, multi-year contracts).
Required Qualifications
- CPA / bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive revenue accounting experience, including significant experience in a SaaS or subscription-based software company.
- Solid working knowledge of US GAAP, particularly ASC 606 revenue recognition for software/SaaS arrangements.
- Hands-on experience with ERP and/or revenue recognition systems (e.g., Salesforce) and billing/CRM integrations.
- Demonstrated ability to review contracts and independently determine revenue treatment for complex or non-standard terms.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, large data reconciliations); comfort working with large transaction volumes.
- Experience supporting external audits and SOX/internal controls.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain revenue accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders (Sales, Legal, CS).
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines during close.
Preferred Qualifications
- Public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) background, particularly with software/SaaS clients.
- Experience with usage-based, consumption, or hybrid pricing models in addition to standard subscription revenue.
- Prior experience in a high-growth, venture-backed, or newly public SaaS company.
- Exposure to international revenue recognition considerations (multi-currency, multi-entity).
Pay: ₹127,224.62 - ₹948,678.53 per year
