SUMMARY
Once the evaluation board proves the concept, we need someone to shrink it into a custom, nano-drone-sized PCB — tight on weight, space, and power. This role owns the board from schematic to bring-up, including the power and battery-management circuitry, so we don't need a separate power electronics hire this early.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
▪ Schematic capture and PCB layout for the custom flight-controller/power board, optimized for size and weight.
▪ Design the Battery Management System (BMS) circuitry: protection, fuel-gauge, charging circuit.
▪ Design power distribution and voltage regulation for all subsystems (sensors, RF, camera, motors).
▪ Basic RF-aware layout practices (trace routing, ground planes, antenna keep-out zones) in coordination with the Flight Control & Systems Engineer's RF/track work.
▪ Manage board bring-up: first-power-on checks, functional test, and debug of the custom board against the eval-board baseline.
▪ Prepare designs for manufacturing (DFM review) ahead of prototyping.
ALSO COVERS — ADJACENT SCOPE
▪ Battery/cell selection and safety-testing basics (over-charge, short-circuit) until a dedicated Battery Engineer is justified.
▪ Enough RF layout competence to avoid the most common interference mistakes, reducing dependence on a full time RF layout specialist early on.
SKILLS REQUIRED
▪ Strong schematic capture and PCB layout experience (Altium, KiCad, or similar), ideally on small-form-factor, weight-constrained products.
▪ Power electronics fundamentals: regulators, battery charging circuits, protection design.
▪ Comfortable with board bring-up and hardware debugging (JTAG/SWD, oscilloscope).
NICE-TO-HAVE
▪ Prior work on drone, wearable, or other tightly weight/space-constrained consumer electronics.
▪ Exposure to RF-aware PCB layout (antenna keep-outs, controlled impedance traces).
