About the Role

We are looking for an Associate, Business Journalism & Financial Research who can track the fast-moving startup and investment ecosystem and turn raw information into sharp, credible and analytical content.

The role will involve researching companies, tracking funding and corporate developments, analysing financial statements and writing newsroom-ready articles, company profiles and financial insights.

The ideal candidate should be equally comfortable reading a balance sheet, tracking a funding round and writing a compelling business story.

Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness & Startup Research

- Track daily developments across startups, VC, PE, fintech, consumer brands, SaaS, D2C, e-commerce and emerging businesses.
- Monitor funding rounds, acquisitions, strategic investments, IPO developments, leadership changes and major business announcements.
- Identify important stories and developments that merit deeper analysis.
- Research founders, investors, competitors, business models and industry trends.

Financial Analysis

- Analyse P&L; statements, balance sheets and cash-flow statements of startups and new-age companies.
- Track revenue growth, gross margins, EBITDA, EBITDA margins, losses, cash burn and other key operating metrics.
- Analyse changes in expenses, profitability and unit economics where relevant.
- Evaluate funding rounds, valuations, dilution, shareholding structures and investor participation.
- Develop meaningful insights from financial statements rather than simply reporting numbers.

Content Creation & Journalism

- Write funding news, company profiles, financial performance stories, fundraising analysis and industry reports.
- Convert complex financial information into clear, concise and reader-friendly business journalism.
- Develop data-backed narratives around companies and sectors.




- Conduct background research and independently verify information before publication.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, attribution and editorial integrity.

Data & Research

- Track and maintain databases covering funding, investors, valuations, financial performance and company developments.
- Compare companies across sectors using relevant financial and operating metrics.
- Identify trends across funding activity, profitability, valuations and investor participation.
- Build research frameworks and recurring datasets that can support DSJ's editorial and data products.

What We Are Looking For

- Strong interest in business journalism, startups, venture capital, private equity and financial markets.
- Valuable understanding of financial statements and corporate finance.
- Ability to independently research a company and understand its business model.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Excellent written English and ability to write crisp, newsroom-ready content.
- Ability to distinguish between facts, management claims, reported information and analytical interpretation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Comfortable working with large amounts of financial and business information.
- Curiosity to continuously follow the Indian startup and investment ecosystem.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates pursuing or having completed CA, CFA, CMA, MBA Finance or equivalent financial qualifications would be preferred.

Candidates from financial research, equity research, business journalism, investment banking, consulting, corporate finance or startup research backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.

CA/CFA qualification is preferred,



Journalism student with strong financial understanding , this role requires strong analytical ability and demonstrated writing/research skills will carry significant weight.
