A Production In-Charge in the garment industry is responsible for managing the complete production process on the shop floor—from receiving the production plan to ensuring garments are completed on time, with the required quality and efficiency.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Production Planning & Target
- Understand daily/weekly production plans.
- Allocate targets to sewing lines and production teams.
- Ensure production targets are achieved within the planned time.
- Monitor hourly production and take corrective action for shortfalls.
- Manpower Management
- Allocate operators, helpers, checkers, and other workers according to production requirements.
- Monitor absenteeism and arrange replacements.
- Improve operator utilization and line efficiency.
- Coordinate with HR for manpower-related issues.
- Line & Floor Management
- Supervise sewing lines and production activities.
- Ensure smooth flow of cut panels, accessories, WIP, and finished garments.
- Identify bottlenecks and balance operations.
- Minimize idle time and machine/operator waiting time.
- Quality Control
- Coordinate with the Quality Department to maintain required quality standards.
- Reduce defects, rework, alteration, and rejection.
- Investigate major quality problems and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure operators follow approved methods and specifications.
- Production Efficiency
- Monitor line efficiency, productivity, DHU, rejection, rework, and downtime.
- Analyze production losses and improve efficiency.
- Conduct line balancing where required.
- Reduce unnecessary WIP and production delays.
- Machine & Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate with the maintenance team for machine breakdowns.
- Ensure critical machines are available for production.
- Follow up on breakdowns to minimize downtime.
- Material Coordination
- Coordinate with Stores, Cutting, PPC, and Merchandising for timely availability of:
- Fabric/cut panels
- Trims and accessories
- Labels
- Packing materials
- Avoid production stoppage due to material shortages.
- PPC & Department Coordination
- Coordinate with PPC, Cutting, Quality, IE, Maintenance, Stores, Finishing, and Packing.
- Follow up on style changes, priority orders, and production schedules.
- Communicate production problems to management promptly.
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure workers follow company safety procedures.
- Maintain proper housekeeping and 5S on the production floor.
- Ensure compliance with company and buyer requirements.
- Reporting
- Prepare/verify daily production reports.
- Report target vs. actual production.
- Monitor efficiency and manpower.
