Job Summary
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to support our design team in developing industrial insulation designs and fabrication drawings.
The role involves working with 3D scan data of industrial equipment such as turbines, designing insulation based on equipment geometry and temperature requirements, and converting 3D insulation models into accurate 2D unfolded drawings for fabrication.
The candidate should have good mechanical fundamentals, strong CAD skills, good communication abilities, and an interest in learning advanced digital design technologies.
Scope & Responsibilities
- Work with 3D scan data of industrial equipment and turbines
- Develop insulation designs based on equipment geometry and specified temperature requirements
- Create and modify 3D models for insulation components
- Develop detailed 2D fabrication drawings from 3D models
- Unfold insulation components into accurate flat patterns for fabrication
- Prepare detailed drawings with dimensions, bend information, part identification and other fabrication requirements
- Make drawing revisions based on project requirements and engineering inputs
- Coordinate with design, production and project teams
- Review drawings for accuracy and suitability for fabrication
- Maintain drawing revisions and project documentation
- Support the design team in developing efficient and practical fabrication solutions
Required Skills
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD
- Good understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
- Good understanding of dimensions, tolerances and fabrication details
- Ability to understand and work with 3D models
- Good MS Excel and MS Office skills
- Good written and verbal English communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of 3D CAD software
- Experience with sheet-metal modelling or fabrication drawings
- Knowledge of Rhino, Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD software
- Exposure to 3D scanning or reverse-engineering workflows will be an advantage
- Experience with ExactFlat or similar digital pattern-development software will be an advantage
