Roles & Responsibilities:

# Business Analyst – Observability / Monitoring Dashboard Requirements

## Role Summary

We are seeking a Business Analyst to support the design and development of an Observability and SRE Insights Portal. The Business Analyst does not need to be a hands-on monitoring-tool expert (e.g., Datadog/Splunk/Grafana), but must be strong in requirements gathering, structuring dashboard/reporting needs, and translating stakeholder input into clear, testable documentation for engineering teams. The role will focus on requirements for monitoring dashboards and SRE SLO reporting.

## Key Responsibilities

### Requirements Gathering & Stakeholder Engagement





- Facilitate workshops and interviews with SRE, Application Operations, Infrastructure, and application teams to capture portal and dashboard requirements.
- Identify user personas (SRE, app owner, ops lead, manager) and document their goals, decisions they need to make, and the insights they require.
- Elicit and document monitoring use cases: service health visibility, incident triage, on-call handoffs, trend analysis, and executive reporting.
- Translate ambiguous requests (“need better visibility”) into clear problem statements, measurable outcomes, and prioritized requirements.

### Monitoring Dashboard Requirements (Tool-Agnostic)

- Define dashboard requirements in a structured way, including:

- Dashboard purpose and target audience
- Key KPIs/metrics (what to show) and business/operational meaning
- Filters (service, environment, region, time range, severity, application)
- Drill-down flows (from summary component instance/log/trace links)
- Alert/threshold expectations (high-level) and escalation context needed
- Data refresh frequency and latency expectations
- Document data sources at a logical level (APM, infrastructure metrics, logs, traces, ITSM/incidents), without requiring deep expertise in specific monitoring products.
- Ensure metric definitions are consistent (naming, calculation logic, time windows, aggregation rules)



and aligned across teams.

### SRE Insights & SLO Reporting Requirements

- Gather and document SRE reporting requirements such as:

- SLO/SLA reporting views by service/application and time period
- Error budget tracking and consumption summaries
- Availability/latency/error-rate trends (definitions and rollups)
- Incident trends and reliability KPIs (e.g., MTTR/MTTD)
- Help define reporting cadence, audiences, and “what decisions will be made” from the reports.

### Documentation & Delivery Support

- Produce high-quality artifacts: user stories, acceptance criteria, functional requirements, process flows, and basic wireframes (low-fidelity).
- Maintain and refine the product backlog with prioritization support from the SRE Lead.
- Support UAT by creating test scenarios, traceability, and assisting with stakeholder sign-off.
- Manage dependencies, risks, assumptions, and open questions; drive them to closure.

## Required Skills & Experience

- 5+ years of Business Analyst experience in IT / technology delivery (platform, operations, infrastructure, or enterprise systems preferred).
- Demonstrated strength in requirements elicitation and documentation (user stories, acceptance criteria, BRD/FRD-style documents).
- Proven ability to define dashboard/reporting requirements even without being a tool SME.
- Solid facilitation skills (workshops, stakeholder alignment, conflict resolution).
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery models and managing backlogs in Jira/Azure DevOps (or similar).
- Excellent written communication and attention to detail, with the ability to produce unambiguous requirements.
