JOB DESCRIPTION (JD)Position: Nursing Incharge

Department: Nursing
Location: Nikol
Reports To: Nursing Superintendent / Senior Management
Role Type: Full Time

1. Job Purpose

The Nursing Incharge is responsible for supervising and coordinating nursing services in the assigned area of the hospital. The role ensures safe and quality patient care, effective utilization of nursing staff, proper documentation, compliance with hospital policies and coordination with doctors and other departments for smooth patient-care operations.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Patient Care & Nursing Services

- Ensure safe, effective and compassionate nursing care to all patients.
- Supervise nursing activities in the assigned department/area.
- Ensure patients receive nursing care as per prescribed treatment plans and hospital protocols.
- Monitor patient condition and ensure timely reporting of any change in clinical status to the concerned doctor.
- Ensure proper patient identification and implementation of patient-safety practices.
- Ensure timely medication administration and monitoring as prescribed.
- Ensure proper handover and takeover of patients between shifts.
- Monitor pain management, vital signs, intake-output and other required nursing observations.

B. Nursing Staff Management

- Allocate duties and shifts to nursing staff as per department requirements.
- Ensure adequate nursing coverage during all shifts.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality and discipline of nursing staff.
- Guide and supervise staff nurses and nursing support staff.
- Identify staff shortages and coordinate for appropriate manpower arrangements.
- Monitor staff performance and provide feedback wherever required.
- Ensure proper uniform, grooming and professional conduct of nursing staff.

C. Medication & Patient Safety

- Ensure medicines are administered according to the prescribed orders.
- Monitor safe storage, handling and administration of medications.
- Ensure high-alert and emergency medicines are handled as per hospital policy.
- Check medication-related records and ensure proper documentation.
- Report medication errors, adverse events or near-miss incidents immediately.
- Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are available and ready for use.

D. Documentation & Records

- Ensure accurate and timely completion of nursing documentation.
- Monitor nursing notes, medication records, vital charts, care plans and other applicable records.
- Ensure proper maintenance of patient files and nursing registers.
- Review documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Maintain records required for audits, quality checks and statutory compliance.

E. Handover & Communication





- Ensure effective shift-to-shift handover of patient information.
- Conduct/participate in nursing handover meetings as required.
- Coordinate with doctors regarding patient condition and treatment requirements.
- Maintain effective communication with patients and their attendants.
- Coordinate with laboratory, pharmacy, housekeeping, facility and other departments for patient-care requirements.
- Escalate critical patient-care or operational issues to the appropriate authority.

F. Infection Prevention & Control

- Ensure compliance with hand hygiene and infection-control practices.
- Monitor appropriate use of PPE by nursing staff.
- Ensure proper biomedical waste segregation and disposal practices.
- Monitor cleanliness and infection-control practices in the nursing area.
- Support infection-control audits and corrective actions.
- Ensure staff follow hospital infection-prevention policies and SOPs.

G. Emergency & Safety Management

- Ensure nursing staff are prepared to respond to medical emergencies.
- Ensure availability and readiness of emergency trolley/crash cart as per hospital policy.
- Monitor availability of emergency medicines, consumables and equipment.
- Participate in emergency drills and safety training.
- Ensure fire and disaster-management procedures are understood by nursing staff.
- Immediately report any safety hazard or emergency incident.

H. Inventory & Equipment Management

- Monitor availability of nursing consumables and essential supplies.
- Coordinate with Stores/Purchase for timely replenishment of required items.
- Ensure proper storage and utilization of nursing supplies.
- Monitor availability and functioning of essential nursing equipment.
- Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the concerned department.
- Minimize wastage and ensure appropriate utilization of hospital resources.

I. Training & Staff Development

- Identify training needs of nursing staff.
- Conduct or coordinate induction and on-the-job training.
- Ensure staff are trained in hospital SOPs and patient-safety practices.
- Support training related to infection control, medication safety, emergency response and documentation.
- Maintain records of staff training and competency where applicable.

J. Quality & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with hospital nursing policies, SOPs and protocols.




- Support quality improvement and patient-safety initiatives.
- Participate in internal and external audits.
- Ensure timely closure of audit observations related to nursing services.
- Monitor nursing quality indicators and report concerns to the reporting authority.
- Support accreditation and regulatory compliance activities of the hospital.

3. Patient & Attendant Support

- Maintain professional and respectful communication with patients and attendants.
- Address routine nursing-related concerns appropriately.
- Ensure patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
- Escalate unresolved complaints to the appropriate authority.
- Promote patient education regarding treatment, medication and care requirements as applicable.

4. Daily Monitoring

The Nursing Incharge should regularly monitor:

- Nursing staff attendance and duty allocation.
- Patient census and nursing workload.
- Patient-care documentation.
- Medication administration and safety.
- Emergency trolley/crash cart readiness.
- Nursing equipment and consumables.
- Infection-control compliance.
- Cleanliness and safety of the nursing area.
- Pending patient-care issues and complaints.
- Shift handover and communication.

5. Key Skills Required

7. Accountability

The Nursing Incharge is accountable for ensuring safe, efficient and patient-centered nursing services in the assigned area. The position is responsible for nursing staff supervision, patient-care coordination, documentation, medication safety, infection-control compliance, inventory monitoring and timely escalation of clinical or operational concerns.

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
