Maintenance Technician – Engineering Department

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the secure, effective, and uninterrupted operation of the hotel’s facilities, equipment, and engineering systems. The role involves preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, inspections, and general upkeep of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and building systems.

The Maintenance Technician will support the Engineering team during the pre-opening phase and ensure that all equipment and facilities are maintained to the required hotel, safety, and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Preventive Maintenance

- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance of hotel equipment, machinery, and building systems.
- Inspect electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and other engineering installations regularly.
- Identify potential faults and take corrective action before equipment breakdowns occur.
- Follow preventive maintenance schedules and checklists as instructed by the Engineering team.

2. Repairs & Troubleshooting

- Diagnose and repair faults in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and other hotel equipment.
- Respond promptly to maintenance complaints and service requests from different hotel departments.
- Carry out repair and replacement of switches, sockets, lights, fixtures, plumbing fittings, valves, pumps, and other components.
- Escalate major technical issues to the Engineering Supervisor / Chief Engineer when required.

3. Hotel & Facility Upkeep

- Perform general maintenance work including minor carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and fixture repairs.
- Ensure guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, offices, kitchens, staff facilities, and service areas are maintained properly.
- Support the Engineering team in maintaining the overall appearance and functionality of the property.

4. Pre-Opening Responsibilities

- Assist with the installation, testing, inspection,



and commissioning of engineering equipment and systems.
- Support snagging and rectification activities before the hotel opening.
- Assist in testing electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire and safety systems as directed.
- Report defects and incomplete works during the pre-opening inspection process.
- Ensure all maintenance-related areas and equipment are ready for operational handover.

5. Safety & Compliance

- Follow all hotel safety policies, engineering procedures, and applicable statutory requirements.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing maintenance activities.
- Follow safe work practices while handling electrical equipment, machinery, tools, chemicals, and other materials.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, fire hazards, or other risks to the Engineering Supervisor.
- Participate in emergency response procedures, drills, and safety training.

6. Emergency Response

- Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests and equipment breakdowns.
- Assist during electrical failures, water leakage, HVAC breakdowns, fire alarms, equipment alarms, and other facility emergencies.
- Take immediate corrective action within the scope of authority and escalate major emergencies to the concerned department.

7. Documentation & Work Orders

- Record preventive maintenance, breakdowns, repairs, inspections, and service requests accurately.
- Complete maintenance work orders and checklists as required.
- Maintain records of spare parts, tools, and maintenance materials used.
- Report recurring equipment problems to the Engineering Supervisor for further action.

8. Tools & Inventory

- Maintain engineering tools and equipment in good working condition.
- Use tools safely and responsibly.
- Inform the Engineering Supervisor about damaged tools or required spare parts.




- Support proper storage and control of engineering materials and consumables.

9. Coordination

- Coordinate with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Kitchen, Security, and other departments regarding maintenance requirements.
- Maintain good communication with supervisors and team members.
- Attend daily briefings and participate in engineering meetings as required.

Required Skills & Competencies

- Good knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues effectively.
- Good understanding of preventive maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures.
- Ability to use basic hand tools and maintenance equipment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations and work under pressure.
- Willingness to work in shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required by hotel operations.

Educational Qualification

- ITI / Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Plumbing, or a related technical trade.
- Relevant technical certification will be an added advantage.

Experience

- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in hotel engineering, hospitality, commercial buildings, resorts, facilities management, or a similar environment.
- Freshers with relevant ITI/Diploma qualifications may also be considered based on technical skills and attitude.

Reporting To

Chief Engineer / Engineering Supervisor

Job Type: Permanent

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹22,000.00 per month
