AI Engineering – Development Lead
Role Overview
We are looking for an AI Engineering – Development Lead to lead the design and development of AI-powered applications, intelligent agents, and enterprise AI solutions. The role combines solid hands-on expertise in Generative AI, Agentic AI, CrewAI, LangChain and Solution Architecture with a working understanding of AI Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC).
The ideal candidate will be able to translate business and security requirements into scalable AI solutions while ensuring that AI systems are designed with appropriate governance, risk, security and compliance considerations.
Key Responsibilities
AI Engineering & Development
- - Lead the architecture, development and deployment of Generative AI and Agentic AI applications.
- Design and build multi-agent workflows and intelligent AI solutions using CrewAI, LangChain/LangGraph and related frameworks.
- Develop LLM-powered applications including RAG pipelines, AI agents, tool/function calling, orchestration and workflow automation.
- Evaluate and integrate LLMs, embedding models, vector databases and AI/ML services based on business requirements.
- Establish development standards, reusable frameworks and best practices for AI application development.
- Lead technical design, code reviews, performance optimisation and troubleshooting across AI engineering initiatives.
- Work closely with engineering, product, cybersecurity and business teams to take AI solutions from concept through production.
Solution Architecture
- - Own the end-to-end solution architecture for enterprise AI and Agentic AI platforms.
- Translate functional, technical, security and compliance requirements into scalable and maintainable architectures.
- Design solutions covering LLM orchestration, APIs, microservices, data pipelines, vector databases, cloud infrastructure and AI application layers.
- Evaluate build-vs-buy decisions and recommend appropriate AI platforms, models, frameworks and technologies.
- Ensure solutions are designed for scalability, reliability, observability, security and cost optimisation.
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to development teams.
AI Governance, Risk & Compliance
- - Incorporate AI Governance, Risk and Compliance principles into the design and development lifecycle.
- Apply working knowledge of ISO/IEC 42001 and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF) to AI solution architecture and development.
- Support AI risk assessments, AI impact assessments, governance controls and responsible AI practices.
- Identify and address risks related to LLM security, prompt injection, data leakage, hallucinations, model misuse, bias, explainability, privacy and third-party AI dependencies.
- Work with GRC, cybersecurity and compliance teams to translate regulatory and governance requirements into practical technical controls.
- Support development of documentation covering AI system purpose, risks, controls, data flows, model usage and governance requirements.
- Ensure AI solutions maintain appropriate traceability, monitoring, auditability and human oversight.
Technical Leadership
- - Lead and mentor AI engineers and developers, providing technical direction and best practices.
- Define development methodologies, coding standards and architecture principles for AI engineering.
- Stay current with emerging developments across GenAI, Agentic AI, LLMs, AI security, AI governance and AI engineering frameworks.
- Conduct technical evaluations and proof-of-concepts for new AI technologies and frameworks.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders to communicate complex AI architecture and risk considerations in a clear and practical manner.
Required Technical Skills
- - Strong hands-on experience in Generative AI / LLM application development.
- Strong experience with CrewAI and LangChain/LangGraph.
- Experience building AI agents, multi-agent systems and agentic workflows.
- Strong programming experience in Python; experience with APIs, microservices and backend development.
- Experience with RAG, embeddings, vector databases, prompt engineering and LLM orchestration.
- Good understanding of cloud-based AI architecture across platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Experience with REST APIs, databases, containers and modern software development practices.
- Strong understanding of Solution Architecture, system design and enterprise application architecture.
- Knowledge of AI application security and secure AI engineering practices.
AI GRC & Compliance Knowledge
- - Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 42001 – AI Management System (AIMS).
- Working knowledge of NIST AI RMF and its core concepts around Govern, Map, Measure and Manage.
- Understanding of AI risk management, responsible AI, AI governance frameworks and compliance requirements.
- Ability to translate governance and compliance requirements into technical architecture, engineering controls and operational processes.
- Knowledge of AI security risks such as prompt injection, data poisoning, model abuse, insecure output handling and sensitive data exposure.
Preferred Qualifications
- - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI, Data Science or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of overall software engineering / technology experience, with significant experience in AI/GenAI engineering.
- Experience leading AI engineering or architecture teams.
- Certifications or formal training in AI Governance, ISO 42001, NIST AI RMF, Responsible AI, Cloud or Cybersecurity would be an advantage.
- Experience working with enterprise cybersecurity, GRC or compliance teams is preferred.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a hands-on AI Engineering leader with strong architecture capabilities who can bridge the gap between AI development and AI governance.
They should be comfortable moving between: AI Development Agentic AI Solution Architecture AI Security GRC & Compliance. The candidate should be technically strong enough to design and build AI solutions, while also understanding how those solutions need to be governed, assessed and controlled in an enterprise environment.
