Position Overview
The Transport Executive is responsible for managing and coordinating transportation operations, ensuring efficient logistics, cost-effective fleet management, and compliance with safety regulations while supporting the organization's supply chain objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation Operations Management Oversee daily transportation activities including route planning, scheduling, and fleet deployment. Coordinate with drivers, warehouse teams, and third-party logistics providers to ensure timely delivery of goods and materials. Monitor vehicle utilization and optimize routes to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.
Fleet Management Manage vehicle maintenance schedules, ensuring all fleet assets are properly maintained and comply with safety standards. Track vehicle performance metrics, fuel consumption, and maintenance costs. Coordinate with vendors for repairs, servicing, and fleet upgrades.
Compliance and Safety Ensure all transportation activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations including DOT requirements, driver hours of service, and vehicle safety standards. Maintain accurate records of driver qualifications, vehicle inspections, and accident reports. Implement and enforce safety protocols and conduct regular safety training.
Budget and Cost Control Develop and manage transportation budgets, monitoring expenses against forecasts. Identify cost-saving opportunities through route optimization, fuel management programs, and strategic carrier partnerships. Analyze transportation costs and prepare regular financial reports.
Vendor and Carrier Management Negotiate contracts with carriers, freight forwarders, and logistics service providers. Evaluate carrier performance based on delivery times, service quality, and cost-effectiveness. Build and maintain strong relationships with transportation partners.
Documentation and Reporting Maintain comprehensive records of shipments, deliveries, invoices, and transportation documentation. Prepare regular reports on fleet performance, delivery metrics, cost analysis, and operational efficiency. Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) to track and document activities.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet management
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in transportation management systems and GPS tracking software
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Understanding of route optimization software and fleet management tools
Knowledge:
- Thorough understanding of DOT regulations and transportation compliance requirements
- Knowledge of supply chain operations and logistics principles
- Familiarity with vehicle maintenance standards and fleet management best practices

Working Conditions
Standard office workplace with occasional visits to warehouses, distribution centers, or transportation facilities. May require flexibility in hours to address operational issues or coordinate with different time zones.
