As the Manager of Software Engineering at Morningstar Retirement, your role will involve collaborating with various Workplace teams to execute strategic business and technology initiatives. You will not only manage a team of Software Engineers to ensure high productivity and quality product development but also drive a culture of critical thinking, innovation, and adoption of AI. In addition, you will work in a hands-on technical capacity, guiding team members in AI development and ethical use of AI technologies. Your responsibilities will include managing all technical aspects of the project, participating in architecture discussions, system design, task breakdown, estimation, and code reviews. You will also coordinate with stakeholders to create and manage a project schedule, identify project risks, and communicate project status updates regularly.Key Responsibilities:- Manage a team of Software Engineers to ensure high productivity and quality product development, with a focus on integrating AI capabilities.- Collaborate with product management, compliance, and other global teams to track and implement new functional requests, including those related to AI features.- Drive a culture of critical thinking, innovation, continuous improvement, and adoption of AI.- Work in a hands-on technical capacity and in a people leadership capacity, guiding team members in AI development and ethical use of AI technologies.- Manage all technical aspects of the project, including participation in architecture discussions, system design, task breakdown, estimation, code reviews, QA, and release.- Participate in team communication and collaborate in planning activities,
including stand-ups and iteration planning meetings.- Coordinate with stakeholders to create and manage a realistic and detailed project schedule.- Identify project risks, develop mitigation plans, and communicate regular project status updates to stakeholders.Qualifications Required:- Bachelors degree in computer science or a related field, with 12 years of overall experience- Over 5 years of experience in leading and managing software teams, using agile methodologies- Hands-on experience with Dot Net, JavaScript, and JavaScript Frameworks- Excellent conceptual knowledge of object-oriented design and functional programming- Knowledge of Application Lifecycle Management, CICD, and release management- Experience with Public Cloud, DevOps principles, and security best practices- Experience with quality assurance best practices- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written- Self-directed, detail-oriented, and adaptable to fast-paced environments- Solid understanding of the US Retirement Industry- Expertise in AI-Driven SolutionsMorningstar is an equal opportunity employer, offering a hybrid work environment that encourages collaboration in-person each week.
