Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Social Media Sub Editor with 2–5 years of newsroom experience to join the Social Media team. This is an editorial role.
nThe role is work-from-office and is open in the Chennai, Bengaluru, or Kochi office of The Hindu. The ideal candidate will be passionate about digital storytelling, have a sharp news sense, and be able to create engaging content tailored for social platforms.
nResponsibilities:
nCreate and publish compelling content across major platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp), aligned with the brand's voice and messaging.
nWrite error-free headlines and captions; edit content for accuracy, clarity, and impact.
nDevelop a mix of original, curated, and user-generated content using text, images, and short videos.
nPlan, schedule, and optimise posts to maximise reach and engagement.
nTrack news and trends; coordinate with reporters for breaking news updates and identify opportunities to leverage trending events.
nModerate comments and online conversations in line with brand and community guidelines.




nAnalyse performance metrics (reach, engagement, conversions) to refine and inform content strategy
nDesired Skills:
nHands-on experience with social media publishing tools.
nKnowledge of digital content trends, analytics, and platform best practices.
nAbility to write crisp, engaging headlines and captions.
nBasic understanding of multimedia formats (images, reels, short videos).
nBachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, or related field.
n2–5 years of experience in digital content editing or social media roles.
nExperience in media, publishing, or newsroom environments is an advantage.
