As Avalara expands its Managed Services footprint across thousands of global customers, the need for accurate, scalable, and compliant tax exemption processing has never been greater. A single error in exemption certificate validation can expose a customer to significant audit liability — directly impacting client trust, retention, and Avalara's reputation. The Managed Services Exemption Analyst (I2) exists to ensure that high-volume exemption certificate workflows are executed with precision, speed, and full regulatory compliance across US jurisdictions.
This role is critical to Avalara's ability to deliver a differentiated, audit-ready managed service that drives customer confidence and operational efficiency at scale — while supporting Avalara's AI-first backed growth agenda.
What Your Responsibilities Will Be
Own end-to-end validation and approval of sales tax exemption certificates for a portfolio of 200–300 client accounts, ensuring all documentation meets government audit minimum requirements and customer compliance standards at all times.
Drive proactive client engagement by independently managing high-volume email and call interactions, resolving certificate-related queries with minimal escalation to senior team members or SMEs.
Ensure zero lapse in certificate coverage by systematically monitoring expiry timelines, proactively engaging customers for renewals, and maintaining real-time accuracy of all records within the ECM platform.
Serve as a product expert on Avalara's platforms, enabling clients to self-serve effectively and make informed decisions on their tax exemption strategy.
Conduct independent research on state-specific exemption rules and regulations, formulating defensible, compliance-backed opinions on certificate validity without requiring SME involvement for routine decisions.
