The Accounting Operations Manager (AOM) is responsible for end-to-end client delivery, financial accuracy, team leadership, and operational excellence. The role oversees month-end close, reporting, audit and tax coordination, client communication, and process improvement while leading and developing a high-performing accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
Client Management & Communication
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, managing all communication channels.
- Prepare and lead client meetings with agendas, clear updates, and documented action items.
- Understand client businesses, priorities, and pain points by reviewing financials and business information, and proactively align deliverables with client goals.
- Customize reports, respond to ad-hoc requests, resolve complex accounting queries, and handle escalations professionally.
- Maintain strong written and verbal communication, ensuring clarity, professionalism, and timely follow-ups.
Financial Close, Reporting & Technical Oversight
- Review and oversee month-end close for all clients, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Maintain hands-on expertise in core accounting processes (AP, AR, Bank Rec, Payroll, 941, accruals, AJEs) to guide the team effectively.
- Conduct financial reviews, trend analysis, and variance investigations, providing actionable insights.
- Customize and review financial reports, forecasts, and budgets as per client requirements.
- Monitor and update forecasting tools and ensure reporting accuracy.
- Finalize and file 1099s and ensure compliance with US GAAP and applicable regulations.
Audit, Tax & Compliance Support
- Review audit and tax preparation files, including schedules and adjustment journal entries, before submission.
- Coordinate with auditors, respond to queries, and ensure smooth completion of audits.
