Role Overview
This hands-on role focuses on vendor management, quality control, and the physical integration of test rigs. Instead of designing from scratch, this engineer reviews outsourced designs, manages fabrication subcontractors, coordinates supplier logistics, and oversees final precision assembly and inspection.
Key Responsibilities
- Drawing Interpretation: Review outsourced 3D/2D CAD data, technical schematics, and Bill of Materials (BOM) to verify manufacturing feasibility.
- Subcontractor Coordination: Serve as the primary technical contact for external fabrication, machining, and sheet metal vendors.
- Supply Chain Tracking: Coordinate incoming mechanical parts, components, and hardware to keep the assembly schedule on time.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect incoming machined components against engineering drawings using precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Final Assembly Oversight: Guide the physical assembly of test rig frames, mechanical linkages,
and pneumatic/hydraulic plumbing.
- Defect Resolution: Troubleshoot fitment, misalignment, or tolerance issues on the floor and coordinate rework with subcontractors.
Core Technical Profile
- Drawing Literacy: Expert-level mastery of 2D engineering drawings, welding symbols, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T;).
- Manufacturing Processes: Deep knowledge of CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and surface treatments (anodizing, powder coating).
- Vendor Management: Experience evaluating subcontractor capabilities, managing lead times, and negotiating technical reworks.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong practical understanding of precision assembly techniques, torque specs, and alignment procedures.
