Reading Blueprints: Fitters first study strict engineering drawings. They trace exact lines (like center lines and frame lines) onto raw steel plates.
Cutting and Shaping: Machines or gas torches cut the steel. Rollers and presses bend the heavy metal into curves.
Sub-assemblies: Smaller parts are welded together first to make small panels.
Block Assembly: These panels are stacked together. Fitters use heavy chains, jacks, and wedges to hold the steel pieces perfectly straight.
Tack Welding: Temporary "tack" welds hold the blocks together before a qualified welder locks them into place
