Job Description

What Youll Be Doing (Position Summary):

As a Business Intelligence Consultant, you will play a key role in modernizing business reporting and analytics at CIBC. This role sits within the business intelligence function and is focused on reporting, dashboarding, analytics, and migration of business reporting assets to cloud-based environments.

You will work closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs, translate requirements into effective dashboards and analyses, and support the modernization of legacy SAS/SQL reporting solutions into Python- and BI-based reporting assets.

This is not a backend ETL pipeline engineering role. The primary focus is on business reporting, analytics, dashboard development, ad hoc analysis, and migration of business-owned reporting assets, logic, and code to modern reporting environments.

How Youll Succeed:

Business Intelligence & Reporting Delivery:

- Deliver business intelligence solutions including recurring reports, dashboards, scorecards, and ad hoc analyses that support business decision-making.
- Build, enhance, and maintain management reporting and self-service dashboards for business users and leadership teams.
- Use Power BI or Tableau to create clear, scalable, and business-friendly visual reporting solutions.

Business Partnership:
- Partner directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, understand reporting priorities, define KPIs and metrics, and validate outputs.
- Translate business questions into actionable reporting and analytics solutions.
- Communicate insights and reporting logic clearly to business audiences.
- Reporting Modernization & Migration




- Support the migration of legacy business reporting assets and SAS/SQL-based reporting processes into modern cloud-based reporting solutions.
- Convert and simplify legacy reporting logic into SQL and Python-based workflows for reporting and analysis.
- Help modernize business-owned reports, dashboards, and analytical code while preserving business logic and reporting accuracy.

Data Analysis & Preparation:
- Use SQL and Python to source, prepare, reconcile, validate, and analyze data for reporting purposes.
- Perform data checks and reconciliations to ensure reports are accurate, complete, and reliable.
- Apply sound business logic and data interpretation to reporting outputs.

Governance & Quality:
- Ensure reporting outputs align with data governance, control, and quality standards.
- Document assumptions, calculations, metric definitions, and reporting logic as needed.
- Identify opportunities to improve report quality, usability, and efficiency.

Collaboration:
- Work with business, analytics, and technology partners to enable reporting solutions and resolve data or reporting issues.
- Collaborate across teams while maintaining a primary focus on business intelligence delivery, not pipeline engineering or infrastructure ownership.

Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive reporting activities and streamline reporting workflows.
- Stay current with BI and analytics best practices and recommend improvements to reporting processes and tools.
- Use AI or automation tools where appropriate to support report migration, code conversion, and quality assurance.

Who You Are:

- 7+ years of experience in business intelligence, reporting, analytics, MIS, or business-facing data roles
- Strong hands-on proficiency in SQL and Python
- Strong experience building dashboards and business reports using Power BI or Tableau
- Proven experience working with business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver reporting solutions
- Experience with legacy reporting environments such as SAS and/or SQL-based reporting assets
- Strong understanding of KPI development, report logic, reconciliation, and data quality validation
- Ability to translate business needs into dashboards, metrics, and analytical outputs
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
- Exposure to Azure and Databricks is a nice-to-have, not required




- Experience using AI or automation tools to support reporting migration or reporting quality is an asset

- KPI and performance reporting
- Candidates whose background is primarily in ETL pipeline development, source-to-target data engineering, or cloud infrastructure management without strong business intelligence delivery experience may be less aligned to this role.
