Description

We are recruiting for an Assistant Lighting Designer to support WSP India’s Lighting and Energy Solutions capability, contributing to projects across Commercial, Urban Realm, Transportation, Infrastructure, Healthcare and Education sectors, working with both public and private sector clients.

The role is suited to a motivated early-career designer who is curious about lighting, enjoys creative and technical problem-solving, and wants to develop across concept design, calculations, visual communication, documentation and multidisciplinary coordination. The successful candidate will work with senior colleagues while gradually building confidence in client communication, standards compliance and project delivery.

Responsibilities

A Little More About Your Role

- Assist in the development and presentation of lighting concepts, narratives, and design strategies across project stages.

- Produce lighting designs, sketches, calculations, graphical drawings and specifications, and assist in the preparation of design reports, proposals and lighting control schematics.

- Assist in the production of detailed design drawings, luminaire detailing and the integration of lighting within architecture and landscape.

- Help gather client requirements and maintain positive communication with project stakeholders.

- Support the technical delivery of projects from concept through to design development.

- Coordinate work with other disciplines and support wider team collaboration.

- Support project documentation for planning applications, tender submissions, construction packages and as-built documentation.

- Develop and apply an understanding of standards,



legislation and best practice relevant to lighting and the built workplace.

- Stay updated with industry trends and engineering innovations, demonstrating commitment to continuous learning through CPD, industry events, training courses and knowledge-sharing activities.

You will be part of the Lighting and Energy Solutions team, interacting with specialists in Electrical and EV, Environmental, Local Government and Strategic Road Network disciplines. You will join a global network of lighting experts and have opportunities to collaborate internationally.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

- Experience with lighting through internships, placements or academic exposure within a lighting design, architectural, engineering or related consultancy environment.

- A bachelor’s degree, equivalent qualification or equivalent experience in Architecture, Lighting Design, Interior Design, Electrical Engineering or a related field.





- Understanding of lighting design principles and genuine interest in gaining experience across different project types and delivery methods.

- Interest in contributing to creative lighting concepts that enhance wellbeing and communicate ideas through clear visual and written storytelling.

- Experience supporting team members and enthusiasm to learn from senior designers.

- Collaborative approach, eye for detail and willingness to support multidisciplinary project teams.

- Experience using lighting modelling and calculation software, preferably DIALux evo.

- Experience using Revit and AutoCAD, with willingness to further develop these skills.

- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
