Job Description
Legal & Compliance partners with Blackstone's businesses globally manage legal and regulatory risk and support disciplined, compliant execution.
The Vice President – Litigation & Investigations will be based in India and serve as the offshore litigation operations leader within Blackstone's India Center of Excellence. Reporting within the Legal & Compliance function, this role is responsible for building, managing, and overseeing the delivery of litigation operational support for Blackstone’s global Legal stakeholders.
This role is designed for litigation support, legal operations, or legal services professional with sound judgment, operational discipline, and demonstrated team leadership experience. Operating in a global, matrixed environment, the position partners closely with senior in‑house counsel to support high‑quality, well‑controlled, and scalable litigation operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and accountability for litigation support activities delivered through the India Center of Excellence in support of global Legal teams.
- Lead and develop a team of litigation support professionals, overseeing activities including eDiscovery coordination and policy governance (including leading document retention, collection, review, production, and management work streams), litigation hold administration, case tracker maintenance, docket monitoring, document management, settlement and matter close-out support, periodic internal and external reporting, billing and insurance monitoring and tracking, and related litigation operations activities.
- Act as the primary offshore liaison to senior in‑house counsel and alternative legal service providers (ALSPs), aligning on priorities, capacity, and service expectations.
- Ensure consistent delivery standards, quality, risk management, and operational excellence across all litigation support activities.
- Serve as an offshore escalation point for complex litigation operational, delivery, and risk‑related matters.
- Translate litigation priorities into clear operating plans, balancing efficiency and standardization with matter‑specific and jurisdictional requirements.
- Establish and maintain governance frameworks,
service level expectations, performance metrics, and escalation mechanisms for litigation support activities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimization, eDiscovery and legal technology enhancements, automation opportunities, and operating model improvements.
- Ensure strong controls, documentation, confidentiality standards, and audit readiness across all supported activities.
- Partner closely with global stakeholders across time zones and support business needs outside of regular business hours as required.
Qualifications
Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who demonstrate sound judgment, a strong work ethic, and a consistent record of achievement.
The successful candidate must have:
- Law degree (LLB, LLM, or equivalent); US JD or LLM from a US-accredited institution strongly preferred. Significant litigation support or legal operations experience at US-headquartered company in lieu of US formal qualification considered.
- 12+ years of experience in litigation support, legal operations, in-house legal teams, law firms, or professional services environments, including 3+ years in leadership role overseeing litigation support functions including expertise in eDiscovery, case and matter management, docket monitoring, records management, and related legal operations activities in fast-paced environment.
- Deep experience and expertise with US litigation practices and the US federal/state court system, evidenced through: (a) a US law degree (JD or LLM); (b) experience at a US law firm or US-headquartered in-house legal team; (c) direct experience handling/supporting US litigation matters from India in a GCC, ALSP, or LPO; or (d) experience at a multinational company managing US litigation workstreams from offshore.
- Experience managing confidential and highly sensitive legal data, including familiarity with litigation holds, document preservation, US discovery obligations (FRCP), and data governance practices.
- Solid understanding of litigation workflows, legal service delivery standards, and in‑house legal operations.
- Experience partnering effectively with senior in-house counsel and external law firms/ALSPs in a global environment.
- Experience building, leading, and developing high-performing teams in an offshore or shared-services environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including communicating confidently and clearly with senior stakeholders globally.
- Willingness and flexibility to work hours provide significant overlap with US Eastern Time.
- Experience establishing governance frameworks, performance metrics, and operational reporting.
- Sound judgment in legal and operational risk, with a results‑oriented execution mindset and strong risk awareness.
- Experience in private equity, alternative asset management, or financial services litigation support.
- Fluency in AI-powered legal technology, predictive coding, and technology-assisted review (TAR).
Preferred
- US JD or LLM from a recognized US institution.
- Experience supporting multi-jurisdictional litigation (EMEA, APAC) in addition to US matters.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Relativity Certified Administrator,
ACEDS eDiscovery certification, PMP, or equivalent).
- Experience with legal project management methodologies and tools.
- Awareness of cross-border data transfer frameworks (DPDPA, US data privacy) as they relate to litigation data handling.
