Job Description

Job Purpose

The Specialist is a critical performance-recovery role accountable for improving collections effectiveness across a complex global portfolio of customers, countries, disputed balances and deductions. There is a focus to stabilize AR performance and convert receivables into cash faster by driving disciplined follow-up, resolving payment blockers, escalating issues with urgency, and reducing aged past-due exposure. Success in this role will be measured through cash collection delivery, DSO improvement, past-due backlog reduction, burn down aged deductions and closure of complex blocked items—not by activity volume alone.

This is not a routine follow-up role. It is a high-accountability role for an experienced analyst who can take ownership of complex customer positions, work across functions and geographies, and force resolution on issues that are slowing cash conversion.

Key Responsibilities

- Own end-to-end collections performance for an assigned portfolio of complex, high-value customer accounts, including delinquent balances, deducted items, unapplied cash impacts, and aged open AR.

- Drive structured collection activity with commercial teams (sales) and/or customers through meetings, emails, written follow-up, account reconciliations, and action-based payment recovery plans.

- Identify and resolve the true drivers of delinquency, including invoice disputes, customer master issues, credit holds, remittance mismatches, cash application gaps, deductions due to different reasons
- Lead customer account-level problem solving and coordinate resolution across Sales, Customer Service, Pricing, Supply Chain, Cash Application, Finance, and retained GBS governance stakeholders.

- Escalate aged, high-risk, or commercially sensitive balances in a timely and disciplined manner, with clear articulation of financial impact, root cause, required decision, accountable owner, and target closure date.

- Maintain a clear and current action log / tracker for critical accounts, ensuring there is visible ownership, next-step clarity,

and no stalled issues sitting “in analysis.”

- Prepare concise portfolio reviews for governance calls, including aging analysis, cash risks, top overdue drivers, dispute blockers, expected recovery timing, and recommended interventions.

- Support recovery of cash from customers where reconciliation quality, remittance complexity, or historic process weaknesses are affecting collection outcomes.

- Perform root-cause analysis on recurring collection blockers and drive corrective actions to prevent repeat issues and reduce future aging.

- Ensure portfolio handling is compliant with process controls, documentation standards, audit requirements, and client governance expectations.

Key Performance Metrics

- Cash collected vs. monthly / quarterly target for assigned portfolio

- DSO improvement on assigned accounts / portfolio

- Reduction in past-due backlog (value and line-item count), especially aged buckets

- Reduction in >60-day delinquent balances

- Deducted-items resolution rate and speed of closure
- Promise-to-pay conversion / payment realization rate

- Escalation timeliness and action closure discipline

- Recurring issue reduction through root-cause elimination

- Portfolio risk visibility quality, including accuracy of action plans, aging reporting, and expected cash timing

Required Experience and Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related discipline.

- Relevant years of hands-on experience in collections / AR / O2C within a global shared services, captive, or BPO environment.

- Proven experience managing complex customer portfolios involving multiple legal entities, countries, currencies, and high-value balances.

- Demonstrated track record of improving cash collections, DSO, aging, and past-due recovery in challenging or turnaround environments.

- Strong experience resolving disputes and payment blockers through cross-functional coordination, not just customer chasing.

- Experience working in an outsourced delivery model with clear governance, KPI reviews, and escalation expectations.

- Strong ERP experience required; SAP is strongly preferred. Exposure to reporting / workflow tools such as Power BI, collections platforms, or workflow trackers is an advantage.

- Advanced Excel capability required (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliation logic, account analysis).

Required Skills

- Strong collections strategy and account ownership

- Excellent analytical and reconciliation skills

- Ability to interpret aging, remittance detail, unapplied cash impacts, and payment behavior patterns

- Strong root-cause analysis and structured problem solving

- Effective stakeholder management across business, commercial, and finance functions

- Strong written and verbal communication with the ability to challenge constructively and escalate clearly

- Ability to work independently in a fast-moving, high-pressure environment

- Strong prioritization discipline across high-value,

aged, and commercially sensitive accounts

- Strong systems fluency across ERP, reporting, and workflow tools

Behavioral Expectations

- Own the outcome, not just the task. This role is expected to move balances to resolution, not simply report status.

- Show urgency and control on aged or high-risk accounts; do not allow issues to drift.

- Escalate early and well—fact-based, specific, and solution-oriented.

- Be proactive in identifying blockers and driving the right people to closure.

- Bring clarity, structure, and accountability into complex portfolios.

- Challenge incomplete data, weak assumptions, and stalled actions with professionalism and confidence.

- Operate with a high-performance, no-excuses mindset in support of client cash and working-capital outcomes.
