The Supermarket Buyer is responsible for selecting, purchasing, and managing products to ensure the store is well-stocked with high-quality items at competitive prices. This role involves negotiating with suppliers, monitoring inventory levels, analyzing sales trends, and ensuring products meet customer demand and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Source, select, and purchase grocery and non-grocery products
Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers
Monitor inventory levels to prevent overstocking or shortages
Ensure products meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards
Coordinate with store managers, warehouse, and logistics teams
Manage supplier relationships and resolve delivery or quality issues
Qualifications & Skills
Proven experience as a Buyer or Purchasing Officer (retail or supermarket preferred)
Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
Excellent analytical and forecasting abilities
Knowledge of inventory management systems
Positive understanding of retail pricing and margin management
Solid communication and organizational skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field (preferred)
2–5 years of buying or purchasing experience in retail or FMCG
