About KaroStartup
KaroStartup began in 2020 as a college Instagram page. Today it's a startup media platform with a 1M+ community and 100M+ cumulative views, built on telling real Indian business stories with real numbers.
We publish across LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and podcasts, and we also produce content for founders and brands we work with.
Why this role exists
We're shifting our core strategy from static posts to video — podcasts, reels, explainers, founder features. That's the direction the platform is going, and it's the direction we're going.
This means video is no longer a side output at KaroStartup. It's the main output. We're looking for one dedicated person to own that shift with us over the long term — not a freelancer cutting a few reels a month.
What you'll do
- Edit the podcast — full episodes, plus the clips and shorts cut out of each one. Multicam sync, clean audio, chapter pacing, and finding the moments in a 60-minute conversation that deserve their own reel.
- Edit reels and explainers shot in-house at the office — talking-head footage, screen recordings, on-camera founder pieces
- Build with B-roll. Cutting to the right visual at the right moment is most of what makes our videos watchable.
- Own the first three seconds. Hooks, text-on-screen, pattern breaks. Retention is the metric that matters here.
- Subtitles, sound design, transitions, basic motion graphics — the finishing layer that separates a decent edit from a good one
- Use AI video tools to speed up the boring parts — auto-cuts, transcription, silence removal, upscaling, voice cleanup, background removal
- Maintain consistency. Our fonts, colours, caption style, and pacing should be recognisable across every video without anyone having to check.
- Look at the analytics. Where people drop off, which hook held, which edit style got saves. Then change the next edit accordingly.
- Occasionally help on shoots — basic camera, lighting and audio setup at the office
Skills we're looking for
Must have
- Adobe Premiere Pro — strong, working command
- CapCut — for fast reel and short-form turnaround
- Proven ability to edit both long-form podcast and short-form reels — these are different crafts and we need both
- Comfortable with AI-assisted editing tools and actively curious about new ones
- Valuable sense of pacing, rhythm and music selection
- Clean audio work — noise removal, levelling, mixing
- Good to have
- After Effects for motion graphics and animated text
- Photoshop or Canva for thumbnails and covers
- Basic colour grading
- Camera, lighting and audio setup experience
- Understanding of what performs on Instagram and YouTube specifically — they are not the same platform
- You'll probably be good at this if
- You watch a reel and instantly notice the cut, the caption timing, the sound design
- You care about the frame you cut to, not just the fact that you cut
- You can take a rough brief and come back with something better than what was described
- You hit deadlines without being chased — video is a volume game and consistency beats brilliance-once
- You want to build a body of work, not just clear a task list
The honest part This is a high-volume role. There will be weeks with a podcast episode, several reels and an explainer all in the same pipeline. Speed matters, and so does not letting quality slip when the queue is full.
You'll also get feedback on your edits constantly, sometimes on frames and cuts. If you take that as collaboration rather than criticism, you'll grow fast here.
What you get out of it
- Ownership of the video output of a 1M+ community platform — your work goes out at real scale
- A portfolio of podcast episodes, founder features and reels that actually performed
- Room to shape the video language of the brand from the ground up, not just execute someone else's template
- Long-term growth path as the video team is built around this role
