- Examine the eyes for signs of conditions that may require referral to an ophthalmologist or other healthcare professional.

- Prescribe and dispense corrective lenses, including eyeglasses and contact lenses, when appropriate.

- Educate patients on proper contact lens handling, cleaning, wearing schedules, and eye-care practices.

- Design and construct genetic vectors for introducing specific genes or genetic sequences into biological systems.
