ABOUT GLANCE TV
Glance TV is an AI-powered shopping platform built for the living room. We're live on Samsung, Android TV, DirecTV, etc across the US, reaching millions of connected TVs. We're not porting mobile patterns to a bigger screen. We're figuring out what commerce and AI look like at ten feet, at scale, with a remote in someone's hand. Very few people in the world are working on this problem.
The design team is small and deliberately so. Everyone owns real surface area.
THE ROLE
You'll own experiences end to end, from understanding the problem deeply to designs that engineering can build without guessing. Everything inside the experience is yours: the exploration, the flows, the edge cases, the polish, the follow-through after handoff.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Understand before you design. Get explicit on the feature's goal and the user need behind it. Ask why the problem exists before opening a canvas.
- Explore more than one direction. Show the alternatives you considered and why you chose the one you did. First idea is rarely the answer.
- Design complete flows, not screens. Connect the screens into one coherent experience. Loading, empty, error, first-run, offline. These are the states that decide whether a feature feels finished.
- Ship polished UI. Work fluently within the design system, extend it when you need to, and know the difference between the two.
- Prototype to decide. On TV, motion and focus behaviour aren't decoration.
They're the interaction. Build something clickable when a static frame can't answer the question.
- Own delivery. Work day to day with PM and engineering, hold the quality bar through build, and stay with the feature until it's live.
- Make your reasoning visible. Present the thinking, not just the outcome. Use whichever artifact makes the point fastest: a flow, a prototype, a comparison.
- Be good to work with. Show up in critique, give useful feedback, help a peer when they're stuck.
WHAT WE'RE NOT LOOKING FOR
- Designers who need a fully specced brief before they can start
- Beautiful screens with no answer to "why this?"
- Handing off a file and considering the work done
- Happy path only. The edge cases are where TV breaks
- Tool obsession over judgement. We don't care what you design in
WHO YOU ARE
- Roughly 2 to 4 years designing consumer products, with shipped work you can walk us through
- A portfolio that shows decisions, not just outcomes: what you tried, what you dropped, what you'd change
- Genuinely high craft standards, and the restraint to know when something is done
- Comfortable with ambiguity, and comfortable asking questions when it's too much
- Curious about AI as a design material, not just a feature to bolt on
- Excited by a surface with no established playbook. TV experience is a bonus, not a requirement
