Core Purpose of Role The Teacher Librarian works as a member of the academic team to manage the library and educational resources in support of the school’s faculty, curriculum and student needs. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Library Management, Library Collection Development, Cataloging Resources, Teaching and promoting literacy and information gathering skills, Managing Library resources supporting IB curriculum, Developing and Managing all Library programming.

Essential General Responsibilities (Listed below but not limited to)
- To manage and be in charge of the library and supervise users at all times.
- To create an environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning, resource-based instructional practices, and collaboration with teaching staff.
- To carry out regular maintenance of library stock including withdrawals and stock replacement to maintain a relevant collection that supports all learners at all school sites.
- To carry out classification and cataloging of resources using the Library Management System, and supervising labeling, protection, display and shelving of library stock by the Librarian.
- To maintain a good knowledge and understanding of current and classic fiction and non-fiction materials.
- To support learners to identify, locate and access the information they require.
- Collect and analyze data to demonstrate correlations between the library use and pupil engagement and achievement.
- Remain current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to school library programs.
- Ensure appropriate security measures exist to protect library resources.
- Effectively manage the overdue system.
- Liaise with the IB co-ordinator and Accounts dept. to ensure books are returned from pupils who are leaving or charges for replacement raised in a good time.
- Promote the library services to the school community.
- To provide suitable enrichment activities (e.g. homework club/games).
- Explore options for extending the resources (e.g. through the availability of free national resources).
- Share with the learning community collaboratively developed and up-to-date school policies concerning such issues as materials selection, circulation, reconsideration of materials, copyright, privacy, and acceptable use.
- Manage the library budget on a yearly basis.
- To promote awareness of resources and services at Inset days.
- Other duties reasonable to assist in the smooth operation of the library.
- Promote inquiry and research by facilitating access to challenging and age-appropriate materials for students.
- Programming/Events: Develop, organize, manage and promote the following programs offered through the Library: Author Visits, Reading Challenges, Pocket Poems/Poetry Month, Summer Reading program and customized booklists, Interactive Summer Reading site, Bookfairs.
General Classroom Management The Teacher Librarian Should:
- Use classroom and behavioral management strategies that are positive, structured, consistent, respectful, and responsive to student needs, to build a safe, orderly, inclusive, and positive classroom community
- Utilize an effective approach to behavior management, time management, classroom organization and appearance, planning, teaching, learning and reporting
- Establish clear guidelines and expectations for students
- Ensure that effective classroom routines are established and followed
- Encourage students to develop good work habits, neatness and careful use of materials, books, and ICT
- Assist students in developing self-discipline and independence
- Encourage respect among students and between teacher and students
- Show consistency and fairness in dealing with students
- Create a psychologically safe learning environment that is conducive to risk taking
- Encourage students to interact and work cooperatively with others and engage all students in activities
