Role Overview
We are looking for a student-focused Study Abroad Counselor to guide students and parents through the complete international education journey—from profile assessment and country/course selection to university applications, admission, visa coordination and pre-departure support.
2. Key Responsibilities
· Conduct one-to-one counseling sessions with students and parents.
· Assess academic profile, career goals, budget, preferred destination and overall student requirements.
· Recommend suitable countries, courses and universities based on student profile and career objectives.
· Explain admission requirements, intakes, tuition fees, living costs, scholarships and application timelines.
· Guide students through university applications and coordinate required documents.
· Check applications and documents for accuracy, completeness and consistency before submission.
· Provide basic guidance on visa requirements, financial documents, SOP/LOR/CV requirements and compliance.
· Track applications, offers, deadlines and student follow-ups accurately.
· Maintain regular communication with students and parents through calls, WhatsApp and email.
· Handle objections and concerns professionally and provide realistic, transparent advice.
· Coordinate with admission, documentation and visa teams to ensure smooth processing.
· Support students after admission through pre-departure guidance and practical overseas preparation.
· Maintain student records, follow-up status and pipeline information in CRM/Excel/Google Sheets.
· Follow ethical counseling practices and never make unrealistic admission or visa promises.
3. Key Skills – Essential
· Study abroad counseling and student profile assessment.
· Knowledge of international university admissions and application processes.
· Working knowledge of major destinations: UK, Australia, Canada, USA, Germany, Ireland, France, Current Zealand, UAE/Dubai and Singapore.
· Knowledge of university intakes, admission requirements, English-language requirements, tuition fees and scholarships.
· Basic understanding of student visa requirements and country-specific regulations.
· Strong listening, questioning and empathy skills.
· Excellent verbal communication and clear explanation skills.
· Good written English and professional email communication.
· Strong parent handling and relationship-building skills.
· University and course shortlisting based on student profile—not only partner universities.
· Attention to detail and document-checking ability.
· Follow-up, deadline and pipeline management.
· CRM, Excel or Google Sheets skills.
· Problem-solving and objection-handling skills.
· Ethical sales and student conversion skills.
· Ability to manage multiple students and applications at the same time.
· Ability to stay updated on changes in admissions, visa rules and study-abroad trends.
4. Ideal Candidate
· 2–5 years of relevant experience in study abroad counseling, international education or overseas admissions preferred.
· Strong knowledge of at least 2–3 major study destinations; multi-destination knowledge is preferred.
· Comfortable communicating with both students and parents.
· Able to independently manage a student from first counseling to admission and pre-departure.
5. Preferred Qualifications / Certifications
· Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
· QEAC/PIER, British Council, USATC, ICEF or relevant destination-specific training is an advantage.
· Experience with university partner portals or international admission platforms is an advantage.
6. What Success Looks Like The counselor should be able to understand a student's goals, assess the profile, recommend realistic study-abroad pathways, manage the application process accurately, communicate clearly with parents and students, and maintain ownership until the student is ready for departure.
