– STUDENT COUNSELLOR

Position: Student Counsellor

Department: Student Welfare / School Counselling

Reporting To: Principal / Vice Principal / School Management

Location: School Campus

Job Purpose The Student Counsellor is responsible for providing guidance, emotional support, and counselling to students to help them manage academic, personal, social, behavioural, and emotional challenges. The counsellor will work closely with students, parents, teachers, and school management to promote students’ overall well-being and development.

Key Responsibilities1. Student Counselling

- Provide individual and group counselling to students as required.
- Identify students facing academic, behavioural, emotional, social, or personal difficulties.
- Maintain a supportive, confidential, and non-judgmental environment.
- Help students develop healthy coping mechanisms, self-confidence, communication skills, and decision-making abilities.
- Conduct regular follow-ups with students requiring continued support.

1. Academic & Career Guidance

- Assist students in identifying their academic strengths, interests, and areas of improvement.
- Provide guidance regarding subject selection, academic performance, and study habits.
- Support senior students with career exploration, higher education options, entrance examinations, and career planning.
- Organize career guidance sessions, aptitude assessments, and awareness programmes where required.

1. Behavioural & Emotional Support

- Monitor students who demonstrate significant changes in behaviour, attendance, academic performance, or social interaction.
- Work with teachers and parents to understand and address student concerns.
- Assist in conflict resolution and peer-related issues.
- Promote positive behaviour, empathy, respect, and emotional well-being among students.




- Escalate serious concerns to the Principal/Management and appropriate professionals when required.

1. Parent & Teacher Coordination

- Conduct counselling meetings with parents when necessary.
- Communicate relevant student concerns to parents while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
- Coordinate with teachers to understand students' classroom behaviour and academic progress.
- Guide teachers on appropriate ways to support students facing emotional or behavioural difficulties.

1. Student Development Programmes

- Conduct workshops and awareness sessions on topics such as:
- Stress and anxiety management
- Examination preparation
- Time management
- Self-esteem and confidence
- Cyber safety and responsible internet use
- Peer relationships and bullying
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Career awareness
- Life skills and emotional well-being
- Support school initiatives related to student welfare and mental well-being.

1. Documentation & Records

- Maintain confidential records of counselling sessions and student interventions.
- Maintain appropriate student case histories, follow-up records, and referral details.
- Prepare periodic reports for the school management regarding counselling activities and student welfare initiatives.
- Ensure all counselling records are securely maintained and accessed only by authorized personnel.

1. Crisis Management & Safeguarding

- Identify and appropriately respond to students requiring urgent support.
- Follow the school's child protection and safeguarding policies.




- Immediately report serious safety or safeguarding concerns to the designated school authority.
- Coordinate with parents and external professionals when referral is required, as per school policy.

Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Psychology / Counselling Psychology / Clinical Psychology / Applied Psychology or a relevant field.
- Relevant certification or training in school counselling will be an added advantage.
- Previous experience as a School Counsellor or working with children and adolescents is preferred.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality and skilled boundaries.
- Good observation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and management.
- Good documentation and reporting skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations calmly and professionally.

Experience
- Preferably 2–5 years of relevant experience in a school, educational institution, counselling centre, or similar environment.

- Effective counselling and follow-up of students.
- Timely identification and intervention of student concerns.
- Successful coordination with parents and teachers.
- Conduct of student development and awareness programmes.
- Proper maintenance of confidential counselling records.
- Contribution to a positive, safe, and supportive school environment.

Note: The Student Counsellor is expected to maintain strict confidentiality, professional ethics, and appropriate boundaries while dealing with students and their families. Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
